I should add that MagneMotion's approach stresses overall system efficiency by minimizing the vehicle mass. Here's a few of their innovations:

1)  Gained a ~10x improvement in levitation performance by using permanent magnets (other systems may use electromagnets or costly superconductors).

2) Combined guidance, propulsion, and levitation into a simpler configuration.

3) Uses automation software developed within the manufacturing industry for vehicle control.

4) The same basic system can be adapted for a wide range of performance, from urban transport, freight, to high speed intercity travel.

As for the maglev systems' advantages over traditional rail systems: a lot less mass to accelerate, basically only air friction (but details depend upon particular implementation), safe, convenient, smooth, relatively quiet, capable of a small turn radius, capable of 10% grade, and dramatically less maintenance. Overall, these systems should be very efficient.
