This triggers fantasies of partnering with someone who has $250k to buy 10,000 of these things and sell them for $49.95. Or alternatively, to simply give them away to...I dunno, 10,000 residents of Detroit...

Fantasy aside, this does raise questions for me like, What would it take to increase both the awareness about and the availability of a tablet that could retail for 1/10th the price of an iPad Air 2? And would it matter? Or - what would it take to make it matter?

Apple launched another $500 tablet, I present you the $25 quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 Android tablet: ICOO shows $24.9 RK3126, $29.9 MT6577 with 3G (10K bulk) http://www.aoicoo.com/en/ presents their cheapest tablets, starting at $24.9 for 10K order with RK3126 quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 and $29.9 for dual-core MediaTek based 3G tablets (not sure which one, http://www.aoicoo.com/en/ProShow.asp?id=45 says it might be the old MT6577) Both are with 512MB of RAM, with 1GB available for $4 more. $45 for 9", $47 for 10.1" with RK3026 dual-core ARM Cortex-A9. A power bank starts at about $8. Watch my video filmed last year at the ICOO factory here: http://armdevices.net/2013/04/29/icoo-factory-tour/

+C. Matthew Hawkins recently begsn seminary in preparation for the Catholic priesthood. In what I hope will be the first of many glimpses into seminary life, he tells what seminary is about, and solicits prayers.
These are the new seminarians at St. Paul Seminary in Crafton, Pa.  for 2014-2015, along with the rector and vice-rector. Try to see if  you can find me in this group, lol. This photo, by Chip Kelson, appeared in this week...

Valuable advice for anyone whose inbox tends toward chaos... thanks, +vijay kachru

Excellent ! worth a thorough read. Here is my take on the nine points by +Eric Schmidt
1 Respond quickly...I am leaning more and more toward it. Read what it means when you don't respond quickly.
2 Every word matters...as a writer I need to do this more and more . This morning as I was rereading one of my pieces, I realized how much of it need not be there. I will have to cut one third for it to be effective. And that is only my estimate.
3 Clean out your in box regularly. I try and have used Boomerang app to some advantage to prioritize .
4 LIFO... I need to do this more.
5 Forwarding important stuff.
6 Bee ..i.e. Blind Copy when to...
7 Don't Yell. Besides all Caps Large fonts also feel and sound loud.
8 Follow up
9 Future search...G Mail is really helpful in this.

Fascinating list; whetted my appetite for reading, especially #literature .  Losing myself in a novel would probably do me a world of good...

Hey +Mani Saint-Victor, that Picasso story reminds me of one about engineering genius Charles Steinmetz. As the story goes, he was called in because one of the generators in one of Henry Ford's plants was malfunctioning, and none of Ford's engineers could fix it. Steinmetz spent two days listening to the generator and scribbling notes before asking for a ladder. He climbed the ladder, made a mark with a piece of chalk, and told Ford's men to replace some parts at that spot. They did, and the generator resumed normal functioning.

As the Smithsonian magazine tells it:
Henry Ford was thrilled until he got an invoice from General Electric in the amount of $10,000. Ford acknowledged Steinmetz’s success but balked at the figure. He asked for an itemized bill.

Steinmetz...responded personally to Ford’s request with the following:

Making chalk mark on generator    $1.

Knowing where to make mark         $9,999.

Ford paid the bill.

The Source of Bad Writing: The 'curse of knowledge' leads writers to assume their readers know everything they know

Guilty of this one.

http://online.wsj.com/articles/the-cause-of-bad-writing-1411660188?mod=trending_now_2
The 'curse of knowledge,' writes Steven Pinker, is the result of writers' assuming readers understand the subject. This causes bad writing. Good explanations start with imagining what it's like to be ignorant of a subject

An unexpected emergence.
This blog post was written in segments. The first segment observes that an older blog post has grown hugely in popularity recently, even though I've done nothing to promote it. The remainder deal with the realization that I've done little to promote the blog, period. What's up with that?
