Tonight in Mountain View starting at 5pm, City Council will be reviewing the plans for the Shoreline connection to North Bayshore. Starting at around 8pm, Council will give crucial direction on the San Antonio Precise Plan.

San Antonio might start late - watch here for updates when the meeting is about to start!

For the Shoreline Plan - good proposals include protected bike lanes on Shoreline for the thousands of people who live within 5 miles of work, and a dedicated lane for shuttles, which would speed the route to the transit center by up to 67% in the PM peak. Making the connection from the Caltrain station faster for shuttle users and safer people with bikes will make Caltrain and transit a more attractive option.

For the San Antonio Plan - Council will set important direction tonight for how successfully the area will evolve from a car-dominant regional shopping center to an area with retail, homes and offices, and a lower share of driving.

Issues include:
* Unlike North Bayshore where Google is, Mountain View does not have transportation mode share goals to reduce driving - and it should
* Mountain View has a widening jobs housing imbalance contributing to spiking housing prices and long commutes. San Antonio is a reasonable place to help reduce the imbalance
* A key goal of the plan is to improve bicycle and pedestrian access. Key questions include bike lanes on San Antonio, the bike/ped connection to and from Caltrain, and bike/ped connections to Los Altos across El Camino Real

For more detail, see this blog post. If you care about how the San Antonio area evolves, come tonight or write City Council, attention city.clerk@mountainview.gov.

Have you seen the green lane in Palo Alto on Park near Cal Ave? They guide cyclists and motorists at a conflict zones at Sheridan and Page Mill. They are a nice touch on the way towards Palo Alto's development of a bicycle boulevard on Park Blvd

Is there a non-racist way to refer to the practice of jumping out of a vehicle stopped at a traffic signal and exchanging people or objects?  I just saw a woman bound out of her car stopped at Santa Cruz and University to hand something to a woman stopped at the light behind her. It occured to me that the only term I know for this is ethnically insensitive.

Experimenting with #readmill as a tool to use and share highlights and annotations on books.  It's revealing the really poor usefulness of Amazon's underlying highlighting feature, at least on iOS which is how I use it.   The highlighting affordance on iOS is crappy, so you wind up with a sentence fragment that barely has enough context to remind you what you were highlighting.  The highlight feature captures metadata about the day you took the note, and (in Amazon itself) the digital position in the book ("position 988").  But nothing as useful as, say, the chapter title and section heading.

I'm getting ready to do a research project where capturing nuances from a variety of sources is going to be essential. I too was very disappointed and perplexed that there weren't more tools available. I found one - klipping kollector - or something similar. It looked great until I got to his blog and discovered that amazon had changed the format of their notes file, which rendered this guy's program useless. He also mentioned he's open to a new parent company. Let me know if you find anything, Adina.

My experience with voicemail and sms on other phones has been, they stay till you check them. But me and my fiance just got Nexus 5 with Lollipop, without voicemail. But she now has a voicemail notification she can not swipe away.

Hi, names brigade, it's been a while.  Has anyone heard of stepped up enforcement by Facebook of their Real Names policy?  Several pseuds in communities I know are getting enforced against this week.  Has anyone else heard of this?
