A wonderful and thought-provoking question asked today in my Mastermind group:

"How do people feel when they think about you?"

(Thanks +Kirk Rasmussen for the tips today!)

Thomas Kinkade, one of nation's most popular painters, died suddenly in Los Gatos at 54. Here is a link to the news report. (http://www.mercurynews.com/los-gatos/ci_20344195/thomas-kinkade-one-nations-most-popular-painters-dies)

Also, I'm reposting a photo and blog I wrote a few years ago when I helped him launch his most successful paining ever. (6 ways to mix art and business: Lessons from Thomas Kinkade)

Lots of comments on mercury news. Some sad comments as well. This is what I posted;
My mother was an artist and an art analyst holding a masters in fine art. This is what she would say: Art is in the eyes of the person beholding it. If it pleases them then it is a fine piece and will be cherished as such.

I searched in vain for AUTHENTIC martial arts instruction in Johnson County, visiting karate school after karate school. But I was only finding “McDojo's” who are just handing out belts like candy, with 7 year old “Black Belt” students who in real life couldn't defend themselves against anything stronger than a light breeze on a summer day. I also found a number of schools more interested in locking you into a binding, over-priced, long term contract. These aren't karate schools, they are more like used car dealers with their high-pressure sales tactics. Disgusting. So I was very excited to finally come across Wambua's, where the philosophy is about real learning, real self defense, and actually EARNING your black belt by learning and demonstrating skills that could actually save your life some day. I was able to interact with the head instructor, Mr. Wambua, as well as get to know some of the students who ranged from white to yellow belt. Unlike some karate schools I visited, I could actually tell the difference between a white belt and black belt not just by the color of their belt, but by their skills, the power in their movement, their attitude, and their confidence. I HIGHLY recommend Wambua's Martial Arts in Olathe or Spring Hill. Drive past all of those other schools who are really just gimmicks, and get a real karate education at Wambua's.

The Kelley Gallery is an awesome place to hold a special event. We held our wedding vow renewal ceremony in the private gardens, and it was everything we had hoped it would be. The gazebo, the ducks swimming in the pond, the bonfire, and the beautiful deck for dancing outdoors all made for a wonderful evening. It's so private and secluded, you feel like you are a million miles from the noise and stress of civilization, yet it's just a stone's throw from Overland Park. To top it off, Kelly is a great hostess, and she and her staff worked tirelessly to ensure our ceremony went off beautifully. Thanks Kelly!
