An amazing and adorable discovery by our guide Chris - a family of ring-tailed possums nesting in the hollow of a Strangler Fig. It goes to show how vital these giant trees are to so many rainforest creatures (and how a bit of local knowledge can lead to incredible encounters!)

Reckon the #HouseRules contestants are pretty handy? The Satin Bowerbird builds and decorates his incredible structure using just his beak and his feet! Now that's impressive.

Public Safety Message: Don't step off the walking paths in our National Parks - you never know what hazards might be buried nearby!

I like big buttresses and I cannot lie!

Nutrient-poor soil means most rainforest trees have shallow roots, so buttressed roots provide stability and act as a natural retaining wall, allowing decaying leaf litter to be absorbed.

This Moreton Bay Fig tree at Natural Bridge National Park is clever, natural design at its best. Pic by our guide Chris.

Ever wondered why new growth leaves are often red instead of green? It's a form of sunscreen! Trees can get sunburn too, so many trees replace green pigment for red, which doesn't absorb as much light, in their new shoots. As the leaf matures the swap is reversed, allowing the leaf to photosynthesise more efficiently.

A really nice example captured here by our guide Chris.

Quokkas may be known as Australia's happiest little macropod, but we reckon Pademelons are the cutest...especially when they have joeys!

These elusive little marsupials live in the rainforests of the Gold Coast hinterland and, if you're lucky, can be found foraging quietly in the Lamington, Tamborine and Springbrook National Parks. Pic by our guide Chris.

Some solid rainfall over Springbrook National Park this week has set the water features running beautifully! Visit 5 waterfalls including Purling Brook Falls and the Natural Bridge cave pictured here during our half day World Heritage Tour to Natural Bridge and Springbrook.
