First place for Michael Caine in the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup

What. A. Race.

Our boy Michael Caine claimed his first win of the season at Thruxton today in a thrilling race which saw him bumper to boot with Will Burns for much of the race.

We caught up with Newmarket based Michael just a few minutes ago to get his thoughts on his first win in the Ginetta Cars GT4 Supercup.

Starting in pole position, but with threats from the likes of Carl Breeze, Tom Oliphant (The Oliphant in the room) and Jamie Orton ever present, there was a job to be done.

"We had an OK start. I had my eye on who was coming up my left side, but the guy on my right got off to an absolute flyer."

The commentators didn't sound convinced that Michael, or his tyres at least, could last the race but that soon changed as Michael hassled Burns throughout. And persistence paid off with a fine pass leaving Michael with his first number one slot of the season.

"It was great to get the first win. This is what we came here to do."

The eagle-eyed viewer may also have spotted the Sofia the First sticker inside the car door. We had to ask...

"I asked my young daughter on Friday if I could go racing but she said no. Then she said I could but only if she could put a sticker on my car."

Are there to be further stickers?

Negotiations for future races remain tense.

Newmarket Motor Company sponsors British Motorsport's Michael Caine
Opening rounds offer a promising start

Last week we delighted to confirm our sponsorship of one of the most talented drivers in British Motorsport, Michael Caine.

This season Michael moves into the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup and will be racing in the Amigos branded G55.

Yesterday, the opening rounds of the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup got off to a slightly subdued but nonetheless promising start for Michael, who bounced back from a disappointing qualifying position.

Speaking to us this morning, Michael said it had been a testing weekend, “It’s a new car that’s not done many miles, so yes, there’s definitely some work to do.

“We were quick in the wet, but a little bit off the pace in the dry”

Despite finding himself running 0.5 second behind the pack, Michael is optimistic about the season ahead, “We’ll be doing a lot of testing over the next few week and getting some miles on the car.

“It was an OK start but we’re working to improve on that.”

Pictured here is Michael in action at Brands Hatch yesterday photographed by Ian Cutting, a Newmarket resident and keen photographer. You can see more of Ian’s pictures at or follow him on Twitter:@iancutting77

An incredible... and incredibly selfish spot of parking here coupled with a spot of equally terribly journalism ;-)

We couldn't do a series of Newmarket shoutouts without mentioning the Jockey Club, or in this case, specifically, the Jockey Club Rooms.

And as it's great to see another local business here on The Plus, this is one shoutout that we can share across all our social media channels.

The Jockey Club has been at the very heart of British horseracing for over 250 years. As a private members club, this prestigious venue has only been seen by a privileged few... until now.

The Jockey Club is now inviting non-members to enjoy the magnificent setting for weddings and business events.

Here's how you can see more:
