" it's raining, it's pouring, the old man is snoring...he couldn't get up in the morning".
While it may sound funny, snoring is no joke. Snoring is a common sign of obstructive sleep apnea. If Untreated snoring and sleep apnea can cause mood disorders, motor vehicle accidents, heart disease or even death.
Not too long ago Philadelphia Eagles lineman, Reggie White's death was blamed, on sleep apnea. What's alarming is that most people who have sleep apnea don't even know it.
Sleep apnea is a stoppage in breathing caused by an obstruction of the airway while sleeping. Ask your bed partner if they have witnessed you snoring or stopping to breath during the night. Watch for symptoms such as fatigue, mornings headaches, and irritability.
Luckily, we now have several treatment options. For severe cases your doctor may recommend cPap therapy. For mild to moderate cases or for people who cannot tolerate cpap talk your doctor may refer you to a dentist trained in treating sleep apnea to fit you with a custom mouthpiece.

Shaq attacks sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is more prevalent among big pro athletes.  It is estimated that 60% of pro NFL lineman suffer from sleep apnea.  Luckily, they can be treated holistically with a CPAP or oral appliance.

Keep your teeth! Mouth guards are not just for boxing. Any athlete playing a contact sport, such as football, soccer, or basketball, should get fitted for a custom mouthgaurd by their dentist.
