Tontowi Ahmad & Liliyana Natsir - XD Badminton World Champions

VICTOR's Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir saved two match points in the mixed doubles world championships final to defeat the number one seeds from China, Xu Chen/Ma Jin 21-13 16-21 22-20.

It was the Indonesian's who started the brightest and took the opening game quite comfortably 21-13. However momentum swung during the second as Ma Jin became more influential in the front court area with the Chinese taking the game 21-16.

The third was a very tight game, and with the Indonesian pair looking tired, it seemed as though it would be the Chinese who would take the title after securing two match points. However, Natsir played a couple of outstanding rallies to keep the match alive and Ahmad served superbly as the Indonesian put on a run of four-straight points to take the game 22-20.

Many congratulations to a great mixed doubles pair!

Team VICTOR scoops two titles at India Open Superseries

A great week of badminton ended with VICTOR sponsored players winning two of the five titles available at the India Open Superseries event.

Young Korean star Shon Wan Ho (Meteor X80) pulled off a remarkable victory against current world number one Lee Chong Wei from Malaysia while Korean sixth seeds Jung Kyung Eun (Bravesword 11) and Kim Ha Na (Bravesword 11) overcame the Chinese pairing of Bao Yixin & Zhong Qianxin to win the women's doubles title.

In the men's singles event Shon Wan Ho had been on great form all week and had already beaten the number two seed, Peter Gade from Denmark in the quarter-finals, and home favourite Kashyap Parupalli in the semi-final to earn his final placing against the Malaysian top seed.

And he showed no nerves against the top seed as he matched him shot for shot throughout the entire match. In the first game the Korean showed some outstanding defence as well as deft touch around the net and eventually won the opening game 21-18. As expected Lee Chong Wei fought back in the second taking it 14-21 to set up an interesting final game. Shon reached the mid-game interval ahead and opened up a five-point cushion before the number one seed won six straight points to take the lead. but the Korean never lost his nerve and went on to win the match 21-18 14-21 21-19 and win his first Superseries title.

It was more comfortable in the women's doubles for Jung Kyung Eun and Kim Ha Na who themselves had had been on great form all week, the toughest match coming in the form of Japanese duo and second seeds Mizuki Fujii and Reika Kakiiwa in the semi-final. In search of their first Superseries event the Korean's settled in to their rhythm early with Kim Ha Na dominating the front court and Jung Kyung Eun creating opportunities for the net kill from the back. and this formation proved too strong for the young chinese pair and the Korean's won the match 21-18 21-17.

Ko & Yoo cruise through in India while Shon continues to shine

Korea's latest young singes star Shon Wan Ho continued to prove what a force he is becoming in world badminton with another great result at the India Open 2012. After knocking out second seed Peter Gade in the quarter finals Shon now faced home favourite Parupalli Kashyup, in what proved to be a tough three-set match. The young Korean took the first set 21-14 before Kashyup took the second 19-21 to set up an intriguing final set. Shon held his nerve and played a fantastic set to win 21-16. Shon will now play world number one Lee Chong Wei in the final.

In the men's doubles second seeds Ko Sung Hyun & Yoo Yeon Seong cruised through to the final with a convincing 21-15 21-16 victory over the Malaysian pairing of V Shem Goh & Khim Wah Lim. The Korean world number fours will now face Bodin Issara & Maneepong Jongjit from Thailand in the final.

There was also a tremendous result in the women's doubles where sixth seeds Jung Kyung Eun & Kim Ha Na knocked out the second seeds Mizuki Fujii & Reika Kakiiwa from Japan. The Korean pair will now face chinese pairing of Bao Yixin & Zhong Qianxin in the final.

There was disappointment in the mixed doubles where third seeds Lee Yong Dae & Ha Jung Eun faced All England Champions Tantowi Ahmad & Liliyana Natsir. The Indonesian pair proved far too strong on the day and easily progressed through to the final with a 21-7 21-14 victory.

Shon shocks Gade in India - India Open SS QF

It was quarter finals day at the India Open Superseries and team VICTOR where well represented across all disciplines.

First on court in the men's singles was Shon Wan Ho who faced Danish number two seed Peter Gade. The young Korean had performed well all week and today was no exception as he triumphed 24-22 21-18.

In the women's singles Korean Bae Youn Joo lost to China's Chen Xiao Jia in straight sets but more success was enjoyed in the mixed doubles as Lee Yong Dae & Ha Jung Eun defeated the seventh seeded Japanese pairing of Shintaro Ikeda & Reiko Shiota. This now sets up a mouth-watering semi-final clash with All England champions Tantowi Ahmad & Liliyana Natsir.

It was business as usual for Ko Sung Hyun and Yoo Yeon Seong as they defeated the young Chinese pairing of Hong Wei & Shen Ye in three sets while in the women's doubles Jung Kyung Jung & Kim Ha Na breezed passed Japan's Misaki Matsutomo & Ayaka Takahashi.

The big disappointment of the day came in the women's doubles as the top seeded Korean pairing of Ha Jung Eun & Kim Min Jung lost a tight three-set match to China's Bao Yixin & Zhong Qianxin.

Brave Sword 12 a popular choice at the World Championships!

Following a great week of Badminton at the World Championships, it was interesting to see all the different rackets on display. One of the most popular among the VICTOR players was the Brave Sword 12. This was the choice for newly crowned World Champion Tontowi Ahmad.

Find out what coach Paul Stewart had to say about the Brave Sword 12 during his recent review of the racket - http://badminton-coach.co.uk/
