As we work to improve our leadership skills around the Principal Marketing office, we focus on a few specific traits shared by the most respected managers. Here are the important attributes we’re doing our best to develop.

One thing we’ve learned that great managers share is a strong sense of resiliency. They maintain positive mind-sets no matter what’s going on around them. They can also adapt well to changing needs in the process.

The Principal Marketing new associate training program is one of the most valuable pieces of professional development we offer to everyone on our team because it gives them not only the skills they need to succeed in their roles, but the skills they need to succeed in their careers. Here’s what we did to make the program a success:

• High Expectations: We try to hire the right people to fill roles at Principal Marketing, so we start the program with very high expectations.

One of the toughest interview questions you might face is, given a particular situation, what could you do better the next time. We use many different interview questions at Principal Marketing to try and determine whether someone has the right mind-set to grow on our team, and this one really gets to the heart of whether they have a student mentality. Here are some tips for answering this question:

• Be Self-Aware: Know what you did right in the situation and lead with that information.

Some industries are wonderfully diverse and benefit from having a variety of voices at the table. Working in sales and marketing, Principal Marketing leaders have embraced this benefit that diversity brings. We look to our team to provide insight and guidance. They use their past experiences to craft a better future.

Diversity comes in many different shapes and forms. Some are easily recognizable, such as racial and cultural diversity.

Frequent recognition keeps Team Principal Marketing motivated. Our company Owner, Kim, stated, “I enjoy taking time to highlight our top performers. Deborah, one of our brand ambassadors, is the most recent associate to earn some time in the spotlight. She continues to impress with her ability to adapt to every aspect of the job.”

Deborah rises to the occasion because she isn’t afraid to ask questions.

Travel events are key parts of the Principal Marketing approach to development. Nicole recently made the most of a conference held in Dallas, Texas. She explained, “I am excited because this conference has given me mentorship skills I can apply back at the office. It’s a goal of mine to help others start reaching their own professional aims. I feel better equipped to do so thanks to the insights I gained during this trip.
