The first time I came to this classy/southern/experimental style restaurant was in 2012 and I've been back regularly ever since. The service has always been excellent, friendly, and professional. The menu changes often enough and offers eccentric and bold/risky options as well as crowd pleasing comfort food. The atmosphere is very chill (yes, chill). You won't make a mistake going here, it might become your spot too. See ya on Tuesday/Wednesday for special burger night! Oh, lastly, follow the chef Justin on Instagram for tasty food/travel pics and a sneak peak at specials - swainstache Disclaimer: I eat anything, and therefore I can't talk for the experience of others' with different diets.

Be strategic, save room for desert, the clam appetizer tastes like heaven. Its a great place all around, just slow your roll a little when ordering, best to spread it over a few visits..

The atmosphere was fun and the service was excellent. Food was also very tasty. However, I would have liked to try the lunch menu instead of brunch on Saturday as the brunch menu is a bit limited.

Have been on a "Philly's best burger" search for 2 years now. I can truly say this is the best burger I've had to date.

Another great Philly find. Rex 1516 is a gem amongst all the other establishments of South Street. We dropped by here for brunch, and surprisingly, it wasn't packed (perhaps it was the weather driving everyone to stay indoors). I started off with the Huevos Rancheros, which was brunch heaven in every bite and by far the best rendition of a Huevos Rancheros I've had anywhere in Philly. On top of two corn tortilla were a fried egg, crawfish etouffee, avocado, and pico de gallo. The crawfish etouffee added a bold cajun/creole flavor to the mix. I also had a bite of the Monte Cristo - the equivalent of the French's Croque Monsieur with house baked ham, pepperjack, and fig-bourbon preserves layered in between two slices of brioche. Unlike the Croque Monsieur we had at La Petite Dauphine, the Monte Cristo was worthy of its name. The portions were large and it tasted much better than the Croque Monsieur. To wrap things up, we split the fried carrot cake - yeah, this can't go wrong. I enjoyed this, but I'd admit that it tasted very much like a doughnut, with a hint of carrot cake. Overall, great spot. If food is consistently this good in future visits and the desserts get a little bit more refined, I'll bump it up to a full five stars.

The restaurant space and decor are gorgeous. The bar has a decent beer list and plays old movies on the TV, which is a nice change from sports or news. The menu leaves something to be desired. Where the burger and sweet potato fries with aioli hit, salads and entree options miss. THe salads entrees were pretty standard and nothign special, while the vegetarian meatloaf was flat out bad. We enjoyed the mac n' cheese, fries and burgers, while the craw fish pot pie was hit or miss. I've visited several times hoping that the menu would either be perfected or changed, but that has not been my experience yet. I'd love to see South Street keep a place like this in business, so I'll be willing to give this another shot when the menu has been updated.
