Tips to Maximize ICSC RetailGreen & CenterBuild

More than 365 days of planning goes into creating 4 of the industry's most influential days. As current and past Chairs of both RetailGreen, the retail industry's only conference on sustainability, and CenterBuild, the premier development, design and construction specialty conference, we know how to make the most out of your experience in Phoenix this November 27 - 30.  Networking and education are the keystones to these conferences.  This is why the key decision makers from retailers and developers attend every single year.

Here are some tips to help you maximize your conferences.
1. Arrive Early - RetailGreen starts on Tuesday, November 27 and CenterBuild ends on Friday, November 30.  However, we have found that if you arrive on Monday, you will bump into the leaders of the conference in an informal environment before the stress starts to build.  You never know who you will bump into in the lobby, bar or on the links.

2. Meet Now, Sell Later - Most attendees are not looking to buy ... today.  The reason why decision makers of the most esteemed and influential companies attend the conference every year is because of the unwritten rule, that every person checks their corporate identity at the door.  It is best not to be pushy during the conference and simply allow potential clients to get to know, like and trust you first.  Follow-up after the conference, however, is a great idea.

3. Attend Everything - With so many amazing program sessions, you not only are guaranteed of learning something that will save your company money when you get back home, but also increase your chances of meeting someone who can help you and/or your business. General sessions will give you some groundbreaking new ideas, Concurrent Sessions will let you hear what the experts think, Workshops will let you learn by doing, Roundtables will let you participate in the discussion and network with your peers.  Why miss anything?

4.  Bring Enough Business Cards -  This is obvious, but with more than 1000 people attending you want to freely distribute your cards.  Every year someone still will run out - don't let it be you.

5.  Keep Some Space - With so many opportunities to network, make sure that you leave some time in your schedule to meet with or go out to dinner with a new colleague. It is easy to overbook, so make sure you leave some wiggle room in your schedule.

6.  Introduce Yourself to Greeby - We are conference veterans and know nearly everyone in the industry.  If you want to be introduced to someone, learn more about the program, get more involved in the industry or pick our brains on retail development, design, construction or sustainability, just come up to any one of us at the show.

Having attended, planned and led these conferences for more than 20 years, we know the value of attending and participating at RetailGreen and CenterBuild.  Follow the tips above to maximize your conference experience.

Greeby Speaks to Shopping Centers Today About Sustainability

It is always nice to be quoted, even if it is not completely accurate.  Couple of quick corrections - RetailGreen is in Phoenix not San Francisco and we need to educate the customer more about the things that they don't see rather than the things they do.

We were hired as Tenant Coordinator for this 600,000 SF mixed-use specialty retail center located along Highway 101 in West Ventura County in Oxnard, CA.  The project includes a wealth of shops, restaurants and entertainment venues in a relaxed, family setting. Anchored by Whole Foods, REI, Century Theatres, and the recently added Target, this center will remain active both day and night.  +Michael Lawson, Greeby's Los Angeles office head will lead our efforts on behalf of Shea for Phase I of the project.
