Did you know? For #menopausal women and women about to become menopausal, relaxation techniques, adequate correction of the #thyroid imbalance, and lifestyle modification are crucial to prevent or treat the lingering effects of thyroid imbalance. How these effects manifest in terms of mood or physical discomfort varies from woman to woman, and how a physician diagnoses his or her patients suffering depends on the physician and what appears to be the source of the most prominent symptoms. Regardless of the type and severity of symptoms, Dr. Arem recommends that his patients embrace his thyroid mind-body program detailed in his book, “The Thyroid Solution.” He developed this comprehensive and multi-faceted program to address his patient’s thyroid hormone levels, proper nutrition, sleep issues, stress and supplements. #ThyroidWellness #DrRidhaArem To learn more: http://bit.ly/2BHXdDj

Dr. Arem's Thyroid Tip Tuesday: #Stress itself can trigger a #thyroid imbalance and contribute to #depression. Stress generated by the effects of thyroid hormone imbalance can lead to an escalating cycling of stress-illness-stress. Stressful life events may been be blamed for what are really thyroid-related symptoms, allowing these symptoms to linger and intensify. I recommend that everyone who has experienced a major stress, such as a difficult divorce or the death of a loved one, and has ongoing symptoms, have his or her thyroid tested. Dr. Arem’s Thyroid Tip Thursday: To determine whether you have a #thyroid imbalance, you must be tested for the level of #TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone), the pituitary hormone that regulates the functioning of the thyroid gland. The TSH test is much more reliable for detecting an underactive thyroid than the measurement of thyroid hormone levels in the blood. If your doctor relies only on the T4 and T3 measurements and fails to order the appropriate test (TSH) you may not be properly diagnosed with #hypothyroidism. Did you know? Tyrosine is the backbone amino acid of the thyroid hormones T4 and T3. Tyrosine is obtained directly from many protein sources. Your body also has the ability to convert phenylalanine, an essential amino acid (one of the amino acids that the body cannot produce on its own) to tyrosine. Foods rich in tyrosine include soy, eggs, dairy, meats, seafood, and nuts. I don’t recommend tyrosine supplementation, as an excess in your body can lead to adverse effects including headaches, fatigue, skin rashes, rapid heartbeat, and irritability. Choose a thyroid supplement that does not contain any tyrosine. Source: “The Thyroid Solution” by Ridha Arem, M.D. #Tyrosine #ThyroidWellness #DrRidhaArem

Dr. Arem’s Thyroid Tip Tuesday: If you are a thyroid patient struggling with weight gain issues and thyroid-related depression, understand that your depression can significantly exacerbate your weight gain problems and make you struggle with weight loss resistance. Depression, like stress, can affect your food choices and your willpower, and cause your immune system to be more reactive. For my patients, I recommend relaxation techniques such as meditation, yoga, or tai chi to manage stress and help prevent thyroid imbalance. Dr. Arem’s Thyroid Tip Tuesday: Quite frequently, women being treated for a #thyroid imbalance enter #infertility programs with no idea that their thyroid condition could be preventing conception and a normal #pregnancy. Even more alarming, a significant number of reproductive endocrinologists and gynecologists who treat infertile couples are unaware that a minimal thyroid imbalance can cause infertility. Nor do many of these doctors realize the importance of detecting subtle thyroid abnormalities. Before you spend two years pursuing an infertility protocol, discuss with your doctor the possibility of a thyroid imbalance and ask to have your thyroid tested thoroughly.
