I am a writer, a teacher, and a mom. My contemporary YA novel, "Surviving Haley" is due to release on 11/6/15 with Pelican Book Group, Watershed Book Division. In the story, Lauren Werthman wrestles with guilt, a lot of it, and she turns to binge eating to feel better. But it doesn't help, and neither does the fact that her mother has appointed herself the "Food Police," and she can barely stand to look at Lauren. See, even though she hasn't said it, her mother blames Lauren for the accident that changed all their lives.

Why should a reader read "Surviving Haley?"
Tragedy can strike without notice. It’s in the news
every day. Bad things happen to good people—men, women, and children, and that
bothers me.       My young adult novel, Surviving Haley, is about Lauren Werthman, a teen who used to like
soccer, who used to...

Exclusion Starts Early
Children are born with no sense of right or wrong, and left to their own devices, human nature will take over. Unfortunately what comes naturally is selfishness and cruelty. Even in kids as young as three, I've witnessed the exclusion of classmates and hear...
