Move the Web Forward is an awesome guide to effecting change on the web platform, covering everything from how to keep up with the latest changes in browsers to how to edit your own spec.

One thing for virtuosos that isn't listed is "get hired to work on browsers"; at Opera we are looking for "Web technology experts" [1] and Core developers [2] to help us implement cutting-edge new features and squash the bugs that cause frustrating cross-browser compatibility issues.

+Scott Kellum, sorry if I sound too jaded, but having watched things from the browser side for over a decade, I don't trust solutions that require responsibility from the authors. You might be one of the responsible ones. There will be many more who aren't.

To make sure the outcome isn't bad for users and to browsers, I think browser vendors should use solutions that don't require authors to behave responsibly. On the other hand, I think it's wrong to blame authors in this case for acting reasonably within the constraints of the bad environment browsers have agreed to set up by following the current CSS WG policy.
