I absolutely love the backbasting method and use it all the time.  :D  Your baskets are so festive - that's going to be a very pretty quilt. So is the retirement top!! And the bullseye quilt. . .  you have some really great projects on the go.  :)

I love the owl block, and what a great approach to finishing the 4 stalled projects - something snagged? Just change it up so it moves forward!

Love this finish! The stars make a perfect border, and yes - the log cabin is more interesting off-center.  :D  FUN quilting, too! I'm frantically trying to get the backs made for graduation quilts I put together in secret for my daughter and her roommate so I can get the to the longarmer. I wish I were quilting my daughter's myself, but there's no way on earth I'd be finished by early May!  Your son's got to love this!! Did it get to him already?

Nice  :D   I like how you put a tapering start/stop point in the feather border.   The seam pressing - I know it's really nice to have those super-flat surfaces, but I rarely press open. I took a bunch of older quilts to be appraised a few years ago, and there was more bearding (bits of batting fluff "oozing" through the surface) at seams that had been pressed open than other places. Plus, I do a LOT of stitch-in-the-ditch, and it doesn't look as nice or seem nearly as secure to do that on just the sewing threads. So I embrace the dimensionality of the surface with seams pressed to the side - which usually means when I do FMQ (I only have a table-top normal domestic machine) that I have to use the spring-action quilting set-up instead of the floating set-up.

I really like your log cabin mini. Good luck!

They're very pretty - the yellow looks nice.  I know just what you mean on not having the guts to use more contrasting thread. I'm at the point, too, where I need to make that jump.

Hi Laura - hey, I'm a pin-baster too (most reliable way out there and no carcinogenic propellants to breathe). Just gotta make sure you know about the AWESOMEST tool for this job: Kwik Clip.  You can get one at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Kwik-Klips-Basting-Quilt-Layers/dp/B0016IZIJI

It helps you close or open the pins so that your fingertips don't get all sore and torn up. It is one of my best friends in my tool box!  I'm sure I've seen them in a JoAnn's, too.

I'll pass on the seat-activated vaccine, but that speech clip sounds promising!

I just love that you put the cats on your bookshelf quilt!   And I adore the name Coccolina.  :)
