OK, this was written before the story of the invented Dylan quotes. And it is a pretty devastating criticism of a certain genre of pop-science books. Yet, I can't help but feel there is a certain snobbery involved in dumping on Lehrer/Gladwell/Brooks in such an indiscriminate way. They are talented raconteurs and sometimes (rarely) hit one out of the park. Anyone inclined to be less charitable should listen to Gladwell's riff on the creative life cycle that centers on the contrast between Fleetwood Mac vs. The Eagles (on the New Yorker web site).:http://www.tnr.com/article/books-and-arts/magazine/103912/bob-dylan-jonah-lehrer-creativity?page=0%2C2:http://external.ak.fbcdn.net/safe_image.php?d=AQAbIWbNDdXagQnR&url=http://www.tnr.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/detail_page/Bob+Dylan1.jpg

It had to be done. One of the best efforts in this particular genre.

This is old, but still relevant, and remarkably trenchant, IMHO.:http://marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevolution/2011/12/the-moral-superiority-of-the-germans.html
