This is from an Alan Sealls presentation at the NWA Conference. I like the list, and I would add a few words/phrases:
- isolated tornado (aren't they all isolated?)
- persons (no one outside the NWS talks like this!)
- just about anything with the word "activity" - tornadic activity, rain activity, etc

What are your weather word pet peeves?

In Chattanooga, TN, just saying "tornado" isn't good enough. You have to say "tornado touchdown" for it to actually mean something.

Well that is a good plan to replace them, so many are out of commission from lightning strikes, and other effects and communities havent the money to either repair or replace them. FEMA has rolled out there new big thing with a phone app that is supposed to alert, but that as in the 30000 plus towers the NWS has are susceptible to the same carnage, Hurricane, tornado, Lightning strike what ever, They can be taken out and what other way is Joe the neighbor supposed to know. Its education, the only way to really start getting people to look up is get them educated about what to look for, how to react, and how to help. If we can get just two members of a housing area through a city, from multiple counties,or state to go through just this basic SkyWarn training, get them educated, they in turn relay info to their neighbors over a bbq , a beer, bowling game it will get out there. The only way I can come up with is a nation wide PSA, put out on the networks, a 30 second blip, So many videos are out there, they now what they look like but don't know how to plan, where, and what to look for a tornado to form. catch them on the tv, get them to look for a local NWS and get trained.

So are they ending the entire Batman series or just the Dark Knight portion that started with The Joker?

Does anyone have the new Twitter on their PC (web version) yet? The Twitter blog says if you update your iOS Twitter app you will get access to the new version for your PC, but so far nothing.

We're on the fence trying to decide between the Kindle Fire and the Nook Tablet for my daughter. Any advice/recommendations?

Thanks for the great comments! We're leaning toward the Kindle but only slightly. If Santa could work a little more overtime he might take a harder look at the Xoom ;-)
