In April this year, I went with friends on an outreach mission to benefit the schoolchildren of Tubabao Island in Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

We stayed in Manicani Island under the hospitality of the parish priest.

Guiuan has five islands in its territory. When Typhoon Yolanda hit, it was these islands that saw firsthand the wrath of Mother Nature unleashed. The barangays on these islands have recovered well and life goes on. They rely on fishing for their livelihood, but poor as they are, they readily welcome any and all visitors into their community.

My big silly baby, DeeDee, three years old, wearing her summer look: close-cropped fur.

We were sitting on the bench in the yard, waiting for her fur to dry after her bath.

This is Oreo, one of my rescues. He's 10 months old now. It's a bit difficult to take his picture, as he keeps grabbing my fingers in play. This was a lucky shot.

Oreo and his sisters, Bella and Luna, were thrown away in an empty lot in front of my house and left there to die. When I found them, they had spent the night out in the open, in the rain. This little guy was the first one to crawl out of the small bush they had taken refuge under, mewling at me. They looked no more than four weeks old.

He was the smallest of the litter then, weighing around 250 grams. A few months after, he had grown to more than two kilos. I think he's still growing.

La Naval Fiesta (12 October 2014)

I was invited to the home of Homer Yabut for the celebration of the fiesta of Angeles City, Pampanga. Homer's mom prepared sumptuous Capampangan dishes, such as seafood kare-kare, spicy sisig and my all-time fave, bringhe. There was also wild fern salad, with lots of shrimp. For dessert, there were several kakanin, including sampelot (halo-halong ginataan) and mochi.

Dessa Grace Añover Mercado and I arrived together and, since we had an hour before lunch time, Homer took us back to the Apung Mamacalulu shrine and Dayrit Mansion for a short photoshoot. Since I thought the churches would be full to overflowing because it was fiesta, I didn't bother to bring my camera. All I had was my Samsung Galaxy Note. The photos took a little tweaking in LR5, but they came out okay.

This time, I was able to really look at the Dayrit Mansion and its details. It is such a beautiful structure. The backyard is particularly charming.

Thanks to Homer for introducing us to the Shrine and making us part of a delicious and continuing Pampanga adventure!

Strike a pose!

This is Bella, one of a litter of three. Two months ago, I rescued them from the empty lot across my home. Three kittens, hardly a week old, had been placed inside a plastic bag and left on the grass. They spent the night in the rain, as it was only the next morning that I heard their tiny little mews.

After several visits to the vet to get rid of parasites and icky things in their tummies, all three are thriving and living a happy life with the rest of the brood: three other rescue kitties and three dogs.

Photo take with my Samsung Galaxy Note, processed in LR5.
