Love the Udvar Hazy Air & Space Museum. Always a good time, but man is it expensive for a "free" museum!

I do not usually ask my friends to sign petitions but this one is worthwhile. It is a petition asking the Nobel foundation to honor Malala Yusufazai the 14 year old year who was shot in the head by the Pakistani Taliban because of her courageous campaign to draw attention to their attempts to deny girls education.

Tonight, Mitt Romney and Barack Obama will #debate  domestic policy for a national audience. What will they have to say on education--in particular, #STEM  education?

Last month, both candidates submitted their answers to ScienceDebate.org. We've published a range of books--all free to download--on the importance of science education for the nation's future.

Before tonight's debate, have a look at some of our reports on Education, check out the candidates' ScienceDebate answers, and be a better-informed viewer (and voter!).

Richard Alley tells the little-known story of how Lincoln and his advisors founded the National Academy of Sciences to address scientific problems during the Civil War. One of NAS's first tasks was to figure out how to keep magnetic compasses working properly on board the new "ironclad" battleships. They solved that, and successive presidents, such as Wilson and George W. Bush have turned to the Academy for impartial advice on matters of critical national significance ever since. In fact, a panel including a prominent climate skeptic endorsed the findings of the third IPCC report on human involvement in global warming. More recently still, the Academy has charted the most sustainable path towards America's Energy Future.
