Nineteen recording artists from eleven different African countries came together to make this fantastic music video encouraging African youths to get involved in agriculture: Cocoa na Chocolate (Official Music Video).

Similarly, in our recently published video on 'Youth, ICTs and Agriculture', IICD discusses ICTs as one way of engaging youths in agricultural activities. Start your weekend with some good music and some interesting insights on youths in agriculture!

ICTs are increasingly playing a crucial role is encouraging youth involvement in agriculture. New technologies can provide enhanced market information and social media is increasingly encouraging cohesion amongst young farming groups. Today marks the launch of our new publication, ICT4D Effects: Youth, ICTs and Agriculture, which provides further details on the role of ICTs in the capacity development of young agricultural workers.

It’s always inspiring to see that despite harsh teaching conditions and lack of good school facilities and resources, teachers and school administrators trained in the use of ICTs are very enthusiastic about using new tools and electronic skills to improve the quality of education in remote areas in Africa.

With these new capacities, teachers can spend less time in administration and more time creating more engaging educational material. One good example of this occurs at Chesta Girls Primary Boarding School. A school located in a remote area of West-Pokot, Kenya where ICT solutions have definitely pay off!

Heya peeps, traffic in mobile networks continues to grow at an impressive rate worldwide. That's no surprise, of course, but mobile phone company Ericsson's worldwide mobility report still makes an excellent read. Thanks to our staff member Anne Marijke Podt for forwarding this.

ICT4D Effects: Youth, ICTs and Agriculture demonstrated the IICD approach to capacity development in rural Kenya. Our new video follows a youth’s ICT enabled journey through agriculture and presents the impact of our work, as well as the views of Kenya’s young farmers.

Last year's World of Difference team have been busy educating adolescents about sexual and reproductive health in Ghana. Coinciding with the locally organised World AIDS Day event on November 30, an interactive mobile quiz and associated website have contributed to raising awareness regarding HIV/AIDS.
On December 1 the world will mark World AIDS Day with a series of events and initiatives to raise HIV/AIDS awareness. Based in Ghana, last year’s World of Difference team has developed a mobile communication strategy to mark the day and to “inform adolescents in a fun and interactive way about their sexuality” and encourage openness in discussing sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

Today we are living in a high-speed world, with high speed internet, high speed transportation, high speed access to information, you name it! Of course we need to keep up with this fast-changing world and bring it into our own work.

To accelerate development we continued to build capacities of farmers, entrepreneurs, teachers, students and health professionals, with a special focus on women and the youth. Take a look at our annual report "Accelerating Development, Building Capacity through Innovation" and see how we sped up development in 2012 http://annualreport.iicd.org/. No time to read a full report? No worries, We have a video too!

Internet and computers unsafe? Sometimes. And although that often leads to very bad things, the hacker of this ATM machine chose to install a game on the machine. Scary that an ATM is hackable that easily, but also quite funny in this case. Kudos to internet journalist Loek Essers for sharing this.
