Liberalism rests on 2 main pillars. Liberty and equality. The french version adds fraternity as a 3rd pillar. Do you think it's a legitimate pillar ? in any case most definitions I've seen stress the first 2 pillars.
Libertarianism stresses liberty to the quasi-exclusion of anything else. Left-liberalism stresses equality and a bit of liberty too.
I think my problem is that I think there should be more pillars. My ideas aren't fully formed but I'm inspired by the work of Jonathan Haidt.
It just seems to me that there is more to politics and ethics and morality than freedom and equality. Most educated westerners would disagree. I guess that's why I feel pretty out of place and I often feel like I'm living in the wrong time.
