Especially for +Susan Myers

Edgar Rice Burroughs in a letter I never knew existed.
Last year I followed the English course prescribed for my two sons, who are in college. The required reading seemed to have been selected for the sole purpose of turning the hearts of young people against books. That, however, seems to be a universal pedagogical complex: to make the acquiring of knowledge a punishment, rather than a pleasure.

I have always believed a great education requires heavy lifting on the part of students. But I cannot escape this particular feeling I too have about some educators. That they seem convinced that being hard necessarily means being good, such that difficulty supplants the goal of developing virtue.

I have at least one cat that would go nuts over this, so I'd like to be able to give him one. Looks like cat peeps are going to have to help spread the word though, so I'm spreading.

You know those graphics that try to show us how small we are by trying to show how many stars are in the sky? Those are interesting, but the Milky Way shots in this video really make me feel the concept. And it's gorgeous and fascinating to boot.

Beautiful Aurora/Milky Way Timelapse from Shawn Malone - Over 10,000 pictures used

The incredible Shawn Malone created this timelapse of the night sky using a year's worth of images he captured from Northern Michigan. Over 10,000 separate images, captured during 33 separate scenes of observing, were used to make up this beautiful timelapse.

If you watch closely, you'll see: northern lights, meteors, nebulae, galaxies, planets, Venus and Jupiter, constellations, the milky way, comet Pan-Starrs, and more.

A boy and his atom: The world's smallest movie

Using an electron microscope, engineers have created a stop-motion video with just oxygen atoms.

The smallest blood pressure cuff I've ever seen. They used it on my Piggy. So cute.

My nephew (via +Susan Myers ) likes rice krispies treats. Here you go older son. This is what I get at work at our cafeteria. I'll be thinking of you while I eat it. :)

Sorry. Been phoneless. Oddly enough, I had no problem eating it without him O:-). And sometimes she makes them with the krispies soaked in chocolate. Next time y'all come, I'll see if I can get some and bring them home. Then we can eat some together and count the chips.

Chickens at my sister's house. We shut the door so they couldn't stare at us while we were eating.
