I know this may sound like a fluff question, and to I suppose to some degree it is, but this question comes out of a conversation I had with someone about the craft of writing.

Do any of you listen to music when you write? And if so what kind?

I tend not to when making notes or writing up the outline, but when I proof I do. Chant- Bach or de Victoria, any work on a cello, lute, or harpsichord, and soundtrack music from either movies or video games- Hans Zimmer or Audiomachine. Also, when the house gets a little noisy, I can put in the buds and go to a YouTube channel called "Virtual Fireplace" and listen to videos that have the sound of a crackling fire in all sorts of surroundings- stormy nights, camping by a creek, or by the ocean. Don't know why it works in concentrating, but it does.

Okay so I haven't been on this page for awhile, sorry about that.  So now that I got that out of the way.  I need some advice.  My 14 yo niece and goddaughter was baptized and had First Communion in Catholic Church, but is now getting confirmed in her new step-mom's Lutheran church (long story).  So I want to get her a gift to help her remember her roots and to plant seed to bring her back home.

So, she loves to read sci-fi- Maze Runner series, Hunger Games, the Giver, even some Steampunk.  In other words, action oriented adventures with strong female leads. But I want a book that has a strong Catholic moral grounding even if its "snuck" in the story line.

Any suggestions?  And in case you're wondering, yes this is the right time for a shameless plug if your story fits the above criteria.  Hahaha!

So this topic came up earlier this week in one of my posts, but for anyone out there who knows- other than Amazon Singles, is there any other site out there where you can upload short stories for sale?

Since there are so few sights for short stories, I am trying PayHip for the time being just to see how it works.  I am hoping to gain traffic from my readers at the Maccabee Society as well as from this group.

So for those of your that have an individual blog or website, any recommendations as to a good place to start one?  I know a lot of people use Word Press, but I have been hearing a lot about Weebly and Squarespace who supposedly have been designed with an eye towards filling in any gaps in Word Press's services- which I am not too sure on, but I think it has something to do with the two kinds of sites it offers.  Thanks for your input.

I had a great conversation with a friend of mine about being a Catholic writer and he recommended an older article from First Things about the notion "that, although Roman Catholicism constitutes the largest religious and cultural group in the United States, Catholicism currently enjoys almost no positive presence in the American fine arts."

A call to arm (or pens in this case) or a lament that's long on pathos but a little vague on details?  You decide.  Enjoy.http://www.firstthings.com/article/2013/12/the-catholic-writer-today

Behold folks, the official Author Agreement release form from Human Life Review which will publish my short story "Looking for Sister's Ghost" in their Summer issue (mid-Sept).  So I have a question for anyone to chime in on- right below the line for my signature is a line for my SS#.  Is that customary for publishers to ask?  Just wondering.
