Another Educational Video from SSAE 16 Professionals, LLP to Provide Needed Clarification on SOC 1 versus SOC 2 and Type I versus Type II Reports.

SSAE 16 Professionals has long realized and responded to the lack of quality educational resources readily available in the marketplace. Especially with the transition from SAS 70 to SSAE 16, the only thing that seems to be fully understood among service organizations is the level of confusion regarding SOC 1 versus SOC 2 and Type I versus Type II reports. In fact, many service organizations think a SOC 1 is equivalent to Type I and a SOC 2 is equivalent to a Type II. This confusion is well founded. In fact, many of our clients and client prospects had no idea in regards to the differences and variations of these reports.

With the demand for both SSAE 16 (SOC 1) and SOC 2 audits on the rise, many service organizations are confused and uncertain as to which audit best serves their needs. There is a sizeable knowledge gap coupled with the lack of educational material and resources available to bridge this gap. As a nationally recognized CPA firm, we assume the role of an educator by developing educational resources for service organizations and making them available within the entire marketplace.

As a leading national provider of SSAE 16 (SOC 1), SOC 2 and other IT compliance audits, SSAE 16 Professionals is proud to release its  SSAE 16 vs SOC 2 and Type I vs Type II video. This educational video is one of many within the firm’s video library in response to the educational and knowledge gap that exists in the marketplace. The video offers clarification on the differences between an SSAE 16 (SOC 1) and SOC 2 audit and also describes the applicability of Type I and Type II as they relate to both audits.

Is your company considering its first SSAE 16 (SOC 1) or SOC 2 audit?

Do you have a clear understanding how these value-added audits can generate a positive ROI for your company?

Understanding SOC 2 audits including the determination of which report variation best serves a given organization can be a daunting task. For service organizations today, SSAE 16 audit reports provide a means of reporting on the system of internal control for purposes of complying with internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR). However, the services provided by many service organizations may not impact ICFR. In these instances, a SOC 2 report would be a better fit for service organizations.

With this base knowledge, we still have several other considerations including: Readiness Assessments, Type I, Type II and the service principles to consider. SSAE 16 Professionals, LLP has released a series of educational videos meant to facilitate a better understanding and bridge the knowledge gap that currently exists regarding SSAE 16 and SOC 2. Our “SOC 2 Audit Overview” is the second video in this series of brief educational videos. We hope you find this and the following videos of educational value as you explore the many benefits of the successful completion of a SSAE 16 (SOC 1) or SOC 2 audit.
