This was a bit of a random find.

Balzac's Coffee Roasters actually showed up in at least one of the blogs that I found, but for Toronto. I had no idea that there is a location in Niagara-by-the-Lake--the reason for our detour was COWS, a kitschy ice cream shop.

While walking down the sidewalk, I spotted a man holding a cup that said Balzac's, and when I asked him about it, he directed me around the corner.

This location is quite pretty, as befits its location in this charming little Ontario town. The coffee itself was acceptable, but not great, and notable for the unusual designations that they use: Pale, Stout, Marble, and Amber. Pale is their lightest, but they did not have any, so I went with an Amber that was slightly darker than I'd prefer.

I'd still check out their Toronto locations however, if I can ever work through my rather long list of indie cafes in the GTA.
