Now six years into my hunt for independent coffeehouses, I'm trying to put more of an effort into looking for craft coffee in smaller cities.

My schedule to Knoxville allowed me enough time to overnight in Hattiesburg and check out The Depot in the morning, and I'm quite glad I popped in. The cafe used to carry the ubiquitous Counter Culture bean, but they switched to Bean Fruit, a local roaster, out of Jackson.

The coffee was solid--the owner (I assume) brewed me up a decent cup of an Ethiopian roast. The cafe's decor is pretty, there are outlets, wifi, and easy parking, and the location, just off downtown Hattiesburg, is a good one.

Quite pleased that a small Mississippi town is brewing up quality coffee, and I hope I have a chance to return one day.
