A recent AIR report evaluating the early years of California's newest primary grade finds that it puts kindergartners at an advantage in literacy and math. Students who attended transitional kindergarten were better at identifying letters and words and had a better grasp on addition and subtraction – even compared with students who'd been enrolled in other types of preschool programs.
