I have seen this #virtualworlds   #design  technique a few times in #SecondLife, and thought I might try to generate a bit of cytoplasm or an intracellular matrix for the #LEA  #VirtualCell  project. Put a bunch of large flat prims in succession, each one with a semi-transparent image and set all to "phantom" - - Voila! a murky atmospheric soup. Problem: the multi-prim, semi-transparent object brings my viewer to a crawl (<10 FPS). I do not remember the experience getting so gooey on those other occasions.
Is there another way to achieve this effect? Is there a way to optimize this approach, the one I thought I had understood from other examples?
