Meet our Master Sommelier and General Manager of Penne Restaurant & Wine Bar, Marco Avigo! Marco has been all around the world of wine, both geographically and professionally. He brings 25 years of experience to his position within +Hilton Hotels & Resorts
. He has worked in almost every aspect of the industry, and was the youngest Master Sommelier to graduate from the Italian Sommeliers Association (@AssociazioneItalianaSommelier) in Milan, Italy in 1986. Marco owned and operated the Ristorante Gallo d’Oro in Moniga, named “One of the Best Restaurants in Northern Italy” five years in a row. The restaurant housed one of Italy’s finest wine cellars, and featured more than 400 wines and 78 single-malt Scotches. From there, he joined Saber, a food, wine, and restaurant supply company in Lugano, Switzerland. While there, he developed markets in Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
In 1998, he brought his expertise across the ocean. For five years he was vice president of marketing for Viva Vino Import Company. He created personal labels for private wine companies, developed and strengthened business relationships with wine producers in Italy and America, and assisted in the launch of new markets in Texas, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee.
With this kind of experience and a network of vintners at his disposal, moving to Penne was a natural next step. Marco insures that anytime you lift a glass at Penne, you’re toasting with Italy’s best.
