I interested to know the communities thoughts on Google displaying 4 adwords results before the brand I'm actually searching. These 4 results are not relevant and doesn't make sense to display them before the brand. Thoughts?

Jake Mabey: Peter, your eagerness to put me in a box says far more about you than about me. Nowhere in my reply did I indicate what the solution for Google was. In fact in every instance I presented it as a conundrum. Conspiracy theories aren't inherently false. They are statistically less likely to be right (Occam's razor and all that), but some conspiracies have been proven true, a la the gulf of Tonkin.

My position on these matters is utterly unknowable from what I've posted so far and yet you ask a question, assume an answer, and attack accordingly? I'm thoroughly unimpressed. The type of quick analysis, broad assumptions, and application of a type that you appear to be displaying are anathema to meaningful discussion.

Please suspend judgement and allow for nuance in discussions if you ever plan on discussions actually being meaningful. If your goal is simply to vent and proclaim your own chosen narrative, then by all means carry on.

Peter Watson: I guess when you expressed your opinion on InfoWars saying it was a shite website I assumed you were defending Google. My original post wasn't asking you to explain to me the situation. Obviously I'm well aware. What I was asking was 'peoples' thoughts on the matter. Sorry if you misinterpreted.

Do the below Anchor stats look like it would trigger Penguin? My opinion was 'no chance' but I was recently told it might......

Aidan McCarthy: Hi Peter, I don't think anyone knows the algo so theres no way ti know for sure. In terms of pure anchor text there doesn't appear to be a problem in that list.
You might then ask if the list is complete and also ask do the links fit the context of the source. What I mean is, does the appearance of the links in their source content make sense, or have they been placed purely for target SEO rather than adding value to the user of the source page. I think Penguin is far smarter than just anchor text checking!

Peter Watson: Yeah just wanted to now peoples opinions as I can appreciate only Google knows for sure. From an EMA perspective, it doesn't appear to violate any guidelines, however everyones feedback is greatly appreciated. In this case, the anchors I assume have been placed purely as a reference.

Best tools for testing schema markup?

Tony “Tiggerito” McCreath: I use the Google Structured Data Testing Tool, the Structured Data report in GSC, site: searches to see if it's valid for rich snippets, then real searches to see if they pass the quality checks.

I'm about to test with the Bing webmaster tools structured data tester. It looks like they don't support as many ways to write structured data as Google.

There are other tools around that people swear by, but my main objective is rich snippets, so I test with their tools.

Jarno van Driel: Like +Tony McCreath I also use Google's Structured Data Testing Tool (SDTT: http://bit.ly/1TaRcpu) - A LOT.

The only downside of the SDTT is though that it's biased towards the structured data Google wants to see, something which can lead to confusing error/warning messages for things like nested entities.

Reason I also use the Structured Data Linter (SDL: http://bit.ly/1f6fooY) - which is a testing tool that looks at W3C specifications in combination with schema.org rules, thus giving an indepentdent overview of markup (because it doesn't take search engine specific features into account).

Lastly, I also use Yandex's Structured data Validator (SDV: http://bit.ly/2hvXGRQ) every now and then, just to have another search engine's second opinion. Downside is that it's biased towards Yandex specific features just like Google's SDTT is towards Google specific features. Meaning when you use the SDTT or SDV you have to be aware that the output of either one of 'm has to be interpreted.

As for Bing, wel... It's Bing - a deep dark black hole you can stare at without ever seeing anything coming out of it. The state its structure data tool is in is an abomination and IMO somebody at Microsoft should put it out of its misery as it serves no useful purpose.
