Shooting the events like I do I usually need to be able to see the riders number plates. I can't usually do this with panning shots so when I am out shooting for my self I take a lot of panning shots

At the end of last year I finally took the plunge and submitted a portfolio for review to the +AIPP  (Australian Institute of Professional Photographers). Yesterday I received the news that I had been accepted. I'm very happy about this. I shall have to pick up my game a bit methinks now that I am playing with the big boys.

There's some great photographers in this Circle of Australians.

Gerry's Australian Photographers Circle Version 2, please help me make it better!

There are some really great aussie based photographers on gplus, I have met some great people and been exposed to some quality local content from this bunch over the last year.

My circle of aussie togs has grown and shrunk over the year, people get added when I come across them in communities or via people in common, I am not too fussed if they are not overly active, i do not expect daily or even weekly posts, as long as they are quality and engage.

However, I know there are lots more quality, active and interesting Australian based photographers who I have not yet met or circled, thus i need your help, are you an aussie photographer? do you know of any other local ones? I would love to broaden my aussie stream content to include more.

Please feel free to comment and let me know if you know anyone (or if you are indeed one) who is a quality, active and interesting Australian based photographer.

If you want to add some aussie flavour to your stream or looking to connect with other like minded aussies feel free to add these people or share the circle, but please let me know if you know anyone else that should be included!

I lost all my filters a couple of weeks ago. I returned to look for them last weekend but I really wasn't sure where I left them so I had no luck.
I did get this shot of a small fall at Somersby Falls though so that almost made up for the lost. It had been raining a lot so there was plenty of leeches out. I have super itchy ankles now from all the leech bites.

A morning photo from a couple of mornings ago. This is from the beautiful Hassan Walls lookout near Lithgow. The lookout has a view of about offers 270 degree views and is a great one for both sunrise and sunset.

One of the things I enjoy about travelling around covering mountain bike races is the chance to get out and shoot landscapes. I took this shot of Sawyers Hut when I was down at the Snowy Mountains for the Downhill Nationals the other week. It's part of a project that I am working on shooting mountain huts. It's a slow ongoing project that I will shoot when I get the chance, not something that I am going to hurry. You can see some more of the images so far here http://richardmcgibbon.photoshelter.com/gallery/Alpine-Huts/G0000Gbn_D58jCOw/C0000kmBlS5ZVcio
There's not too many there yet but as I say it's ongoing.
For those who are interested in how it was done: It's a single shot with the hut being lit with a torch. Inside the hut sitting on the floor was my phone with it's torch pointing to the ceiling.

A shot from last week looking around Kanangra Walls near the Blue Mountains. This is a view we found down from Kalang Falls. It's about a three hour drive from where I live in Sydney but well worth it.

Sometimes it can be hard getting good models so here is me getting into the selfie club and considering it might be time to give my lens a clean. Had a couple of days up at Kanangra Boyd National Park and Blue mountains. Could have quite happily stayed a couple more.

I spent last weekend in Lithgow shooting the State Downhill Championships but I also arranged another shoot while I was there. I spent Saturday morning shooting Flyfishing with Josh, the talented Aussie Fly Fisher (you can find him on FB and Instagram). Josh never seems to walk away without a fish and Saturday was no exception. Next weekend the Trout season starts again and the streams open up once more. I'm looking forward to getting out there to shoot more.

Photographer of landscapes, alternative sports and my travels
Introduction

I have been working as a semi-professional photographer since 2006 though I have been taking photos since I was a child. My main interest lies in the fields of alternative sports, landscape and travel (or even better a mix of all 3).

I have shot both editorial and commercial work. As clichéd as it may sound, I love taking photos and love the challenges that comes with it. I am easy to work with but am focussed on the job at hand. I am my own harshest critic with my photography and, as such, am constantly looking for ways to improve my work and provide the best result I can. However in the end I understand that it is the clients needs that must come first.

My photographs won the 2008 St. Anton Photo Awards taking 1st place in the Landscape category and 1st place in the Action category. In 2009 I won a special award for action outstanding action photograph. In 2011 I won a bronze award in the Epson International Pano Awards. I have a diploma in journalism and use writing as another way to document my travels.

I also shoot adventure racing on a casual basis for Aurora Images
