"The hardest single part of building a software system is deciding precisely what to build. No other part of the conceptual work is as difficult as establishing the detailed technical requirements, including all the interfaces to people, to machines, and to other software systems. No other part of the work so cripples the resulting system if done wrong. No other part is more difficult to rectify later.

Therefore, the most important function that the software builder performs for the client is the iterative extraction and refinement of the product requirements. For the truth is, the client does not know what he wants. The client usually does not know what questions must be answered, and he has almost never thought of the problem in the detail necessary for specification."

#RecruitingSoftware continues to make my life fun. "Divide by zero error encountered. The statement has been terminated"? Wow! That's really informative (let alone, user-friendly) :-P

Do any of these ten jobs look like Tech Writing jobs to you? "Land Combat Electronic Missile System Repairer" is definitely the best match :-P

"Taco Bell has created a position called 'Resident Disruptor', and not to be outdone, McDonald's is running radio ads describing its milkshake blenders as a #disruptive #technology ... But by the time a tech #buzzword has been embraced by the fast food chains, it's getting a little frayed at the edges."
"'Thought leader', 'change agent' and 'disruption', too — as the words get stale, they're in line to be disrupted themselves by scrappy new #buzzwords that can once again convey an illusion of fresh thinking."

An updated for #CentOS 7 version of an older tutorial for CentOS 6. Step-by-step instructions how to:
- create a #VMware virtual machine from a CentOS minimal ISO image using VMware Player 6 on Windows 7;
- bring the virtual machine to a minimally usable state, i.e. to be able to connect to CentOS mirrors in order to update your new system and install additional software packages;
- install VMware Tools.

If a system doesn't do something it is not required to do, formally it is not a bug, but it doesn't make it less ugly and annoying.

I am a vocal opponent of what  #business has done to the #English language, but -- even though it is very hard to resist the temptation -- I have better things to do than to comment on Stephen Elop's neo-Orwellian writing style (forget about "people skills"), esp., since Kevin Roose has already done that in New York Magazine:
