this is one of the best restaurants in california! i went here for my birthday dinner and had one of the best meals of my life. we all had the tasting menu and were blown away at how delicious and satisfying the food was. besides the fact that they do not serve meat, it is a amazing place to go. i would recommend this to any foodie in the bay area and the drive is definitely worth it.

Did not miss meat. At all. Everything tastes amazing and delicately cooked. However, you will get hungry about an hour or two in.

The food is delicious and presentation is gorgeous. The atmosphere could be a little more comfortable it was rather dark. I wish the proportions were larger but maybe I'm just greedy the food was soooo good! It's too pricey for a student to eat there on a regular or even a semi regular basis but once or twice a year is a nice treat.

Visited this Restaurant on 11 July 09 and was extremely dissatisfied. Entered at 6PM to a half empty place and was told they might be able to get us a table on the outdoor patio. Unfortunately, they did give us a table where the patio is adjacent to the rear parking lot with some shrubbery separating the tables from the parked cars. But when your hungry, who cares about atmosphere? At any rate...... Don't go there hungry!! On the other hand, it would be amusing to take some of your heavy set overweight friends to this place and surprise them! The look on their faces might be well worth the cost of this experience. Entries are very very small and would leave a circus midget hungry with prices that are very big! The Carta dish priced at $20 is maybe ten ounces of greens that are very well presented but would leave a rabbit wanting.....The squash and fregola dishes at $16 a pop are again very pretty to look at but would both fit nicely in a cloth cell phone carrier. There were three of us and the waitress had suggested that we order around nine (9) dishes when we first sat down!! I wondered why she would think we could eat so much at first? Now I think maybe she should have advised us to order nineteen. Service was slow and thank heaven they gave us BREAD. The bill with wine for 3 people came to $186.51 plus tip! As I left the place looking for a Wendys, the thought crossed my mind to call a cop and file a robbery report.

I did not know food could be made to taste SOOOO good. Subtle, divine flavors on dishes made with locally grown organic produce that are in-season. A little expensive. But worth every penny in my opinion. This restaurant has inspired me to cook food with subtler flavors.

The best dining experience of my life! No kidding. Been a caterer for twenty-six years. I know food. Jeremy Fox is a true genius. The care and consideration taken to produce each dish and the wonderful tastes are complimented by the beautiful presentation. Can't wait to eat at Ubuntu again.

with a new chef it will be interesting to see if the innovative veggie food keeps up its prior high standards.
