I revisited the Buena Vista for the first time in probably 15 years on a cold SF night. Had a hot Irish Coffee to warm me up. It tasted so good I was thinking,"Why have I been away for so long?" Great view, great bar, historic building, a real mix of a crowd...everything I like. So, I came back with my wife for an early Sunday breakfast. What a perfect morning- eggs, toast, bacon and an Irish Coffee with an enjoyable view of the water. I'm taking all my visitors here from now on. But, arrive on the early side to get seated right away.

Buena Vista is a tourist attraction, so when you visit it tends to be packed with tourists (and some locals). But either way, it is packed, especially if it is colder weather. The home of the Irish Coffee does a spectacular job with it despite the fact they make these drinks at about 20 at a time. Its no easy feat to get to the bar, but once you do, its worth the wait. They will also make an Irish Coffee to go by making the drink and giving you a small bottle of whiskey to add yourself after you leave.

Beautiful view, very classy place. Old school waiters/bartenders. You must have an Irish Coffee because it was invented here! Opened in 1916, they have served more than 30 million of the drinks!

Might not find a seat, with all tourists you'll compete, for Irish coffee. Apparently this place is famous? It'll probably be full of tourists, but in this part of town, what isn't? They served up some Irish coffees right away ($8 each), and it was decidedly tasty. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.

Honestly every time we come here all we order are Irish Coffees. After all this is the place where it all started. The service isn't the best, more of a quantity than quality thing. The buena vista is always busy with people too so it may be a little difficult to get up to the bar, but once you do you will be rewarded with the best Irish Coffee you have ever tasted.
