What do you think of this? Coffee will cost 10 per cent more for men than for women at the Victoria University Law School campus this morning.

In an effort to highlight the continued lack of pay equity between men and women, a campaign by the YWCA is calling on Parliament to do something about the problem.

I don't usually complain about visual impediment from the trolley wires, but it's difficult to find an angle on Gandalf without breaking into one of the surrounding buildings.

Do you think David Shearer could take Labour to victory in the next election or do they need to elect a new leader now?

Wellingtonians discuss how hard it is to find a job in the capital's tough employment market.

Are you or do you know someone struggling to find a job in Wellington?

If the government allowed PTE's to return to an educational focus rather than using experienced tutors as second-tier job-brokers, there'd be a lot more trained and confident (inherently employable) people in the region. They, in turn, would be ever more likely to make opportunities for themselves rather than just apply for vacancies.

People need to have the life skills and mental/educational tools to help themselves, and this won't happen when the focus is churn for the sake of a number in a spreadsheet rather than education and training.

It's a comedy of errors that would delight Russell Brand himself.

An online slip-up by Ticketek allowed some lucky customers to cash in, with seats for the comedian's upcoming show costing a mere $13 each.

Ticketek get what they deserve as far as I'm concerned

Kings of the castles: The world sandcastle building record has been smashed in an effort that turned Lyall Bay Beach into a 2-kilometre construction zone.

In one hour yesterday, more than 1000 people hurriedly built 1564 sandcastles, all of which had to meet Guinness World Record requirements.

Does Wellington need a super-city council? One Lord Mayor for the region is being heralded as the future of local governance for Wellington in the latest proposal. An independent panel today revealed its plan for how local councils should be structured - including a Greater Wellington Council headed by a Lord Mayor and six local area councils: Wellington, Porirua, Kapiti, Upper Hutt, Lower Hutt and Wairarapa.

I don't have a single answer for this question. I see risks and benefits. Auckland has not had a smooth transition and it'll be years before they can be a useful case study.

In my mind, the big Yes comes in terms of transport. GWRC doesn't handle public transport well, but it's partly because they're hamstrung by city issues that they have no control over. And partly because Fran Wilde thinks it's a waste of time. Amalgamation can't save us from negligence.
