Inspired by the Supper Club experience of a bygone era, The Bedford puts a modern-day twist on the concept by offering more than just a restaurant. Underground but not exclusive, this Wicker Park outpost offers a full nightlife experience without the formality. Come into the reclaimed landmark bank for a drink or small bite, and end up staying for a full meal, music and more. Sip on one of our signature cocktails in the one-of-a-kind lounge in a former bank vault; experience our boutique wine, beer and spirits selection at the bustling bar; or enjoy our celebrated cuisine in the intimate dining room. Stick around after dinner and you just might find yourself ready to mingle, enjoy some tunes and the company of an old (or new) friend. You could go somewhere else, but why would you want to? The Bedford is an affordable luxury right in the heart of Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood. Experience it for yourself.

Cocktails in a Wicker Park Bank Vault A friend and I went to a Zacapa rum tasting in an elegant restaurant located in a former bank. Zacapa neat was my favorite. The excellent service alone is a reason to return.

Formerly an operational bank, The Bedford remains outfitted with copper alloy safety deposit boxes in its walls and a beautifully polished vault. For those that are fastidious over ambiance, The Bedford will satiate your desire for all things striking. You may not know it upon entry because it is simply a passageway leading you down a flight of stairs into the dining and bar area. Once you make it, you know you've made it! The more recent trips I have made to The Bedford were in an effort to drink, but I have dined here twice. On one occasion I had the scallops and on a separate occasion I had the chicken entree. Though serving sizes were modest, both were prepared very well and they were liberal in flavor. Self-purportedly, I generally skip to the main course. However, at The Bedford it is definitely worth having their deviled eggs. I always carry on the evening with a drink in the vault. This is a great place to take clients, a date or a group of friends. The dim lighting refracting off the coppery safety deposit boxes makes for a magical atmosphere. There were two occasions I came here for client meetings on slower nights and the service was almost non existent. If it were more congested, I would level to understand, but that was simply not the case. However, they do fix a great St. Germain and Manhattan! Whatever your choice of libation, this is the place you want to be enjoying it. Prices are affordable and valet is available and strongly encouraged if you’re driving to here.

I ran into The Bedford kind of randomly when these people on the street actually recommended it to me and a group of friends. I passed by it multiple times however never really noticed it. When I went downstairs I was amazed. The bank vault is so unique and amazing. The old movies playing behind the bar gave a classy feel to the place. The DJ was great and played all kinds of music. I want to try this place for dinner but for now, the bar and nightlife aspect of it is great. Favorite bar I've been to in Chicago so far.

Housed in an old bank vault in the middle of Wicker Park, The Bedford does not disappoint when pleasing the senses. The walls are lined with safety deposit boxes, many of which are unlocked and contain various goodies. Drinks are a bit pricey but reasonable. A makeshift dance area pops up between the DJ stand and the wall of fireplaces. Lots of seating and amped atmosphere. Give and Take in Box 739.

You enter through a nondescript door, down a flight of stairs and into a bank vault!?! I've been here several times but the cool factor never ceases to delight me. I've never tried the food, although I hear it's good, but seasonal drinks in the vault room is my idea of the perfect date.

I was here in the vault room for a birthday celebration with about 25 friends. Served were some light snacks -- a soup (sweet potato? I don't remember) in shotglasses that was superb. Mac and cheese that was outstanding, and deviled eggs that were also quite tasty. As others have said, the mixed cocktails are anemic. Wait staff seemed overly busy as we were often wondering when they'd wander back to check on us. The vault does get warm, but it's a fun setting. Some of the deposit boxes are unlocked. The one with two holes where the lock used to be contains a geocache, for those nerdy folk who know what that is. Unexpected and humorous find.
