headspace Liverpool Youth Reference Group member Sarah Yahya has been named the 2015 Young Citizen of the Year. A huge congratulations to Sarah! :-)

The 19-year-old Liverpool resident is in the US at the moment, where she was picked to represent Australia at the Harvard National Model United Nations.

"I know that to receive the award, you have to be nominated and voted for, and I had no idea that I was selected.

"Liverpool was my first home since I arrived in Australia eight years ago and it still is; I'm happy that I made Liverpool proud.

"I just do what I do out of love, passion and a commitment to serving others."

ABC reports: Domestic violence victims and case workers have urged the NSW Government to commit more funds for personal alarms to distribute to women who are at high risk of being attacked.

The Staying Home Leaving Violence program, which is funded by Family and Community Services (FaCS), currently has 120 SOS alarms in circulation around the state.

However, case workers at family charity The Benevolent Society said they knew of dozens more women who needed them.

Peta Andersson, manager at The Benevolent Society's Centre for Women's, Children's and Family Health, said in the Campbelltown, Macquarie Fields, Camden and Wollondilly areas alone there were just five alarms to share between approximately 20 of the most vulnerable women.

"Based on the risk factors that we identify with them we have to prioritise women," Ms Andersson said.

"So the problem we have is it's very hard with only five devices when a good 20 or so of the 60 women we support need them and it's really not fair."
