Still looking for translation on this one. Especially at the end, where a threat to fire on the convoy is made according to some sources. This is far from proof of who was responsible for the firing incident, but it is important context. Looping in +Mark Antony and +Andrew Leber.

Seeking translation of this video from Homs uploader described as showing media-activist from old city railing against plans to deliver humanitarian aid/extract civilians. Are any threats made?

He literally says: If aid conveys enter the city without breaking the siege, we will open fire on them. He adds that nobody has the right to speak in the name of the besieged people, especially the opposition in exile. He also says the external opposition are communicating with two or three people inside the city to arrange for delivering aid and evacuating some people. He says he rejects this unless the siege is lifted. He insists on going on with the fight against the Assad regime.
I hope I summarized all the points he mentioned. Literal translation won't work as some sentences are incoherent.

Do watch and share this articulate and considered video message by Syrian human rights lawyer and activist Razan Zaitouneh who was kidnapped with three colleagues in Eastern Ghouta, Damascus on December 10, according to Syria’s Local Coordination Committee. Zaitouneh was in hiding “for her widely publicized work on atrocities committed by President Assad’s forces,” Reuters reports. She recorded this diary describing life under siege for International Day of Human Rights, the day of her reported kidnapping.

She speaks of the bombs that repeatedly fall on many Syrian neighbourhoods. “Perhaps this type of death is preferable to the alternative.. slow and painful, because you experience it every second… It’s the siege, the lack of food, medicine and oil. It’s very difficult to explain what being under siege means. How can you explain to another that your child hasn’t eaten egg or drank milk for several months? How do you explain that here there is no chocolate or biscuits? The only sweet we can give to our children is a kind of date which was used to feed our cattle in the past.”

A bit of a strange one this... British artist Banksy has posted a video entitled 'Rebel rocket attack' to his website. The video appears to be 100pc fake, but, interestingly it uses audio from a verified video of the downing by insurgents of a helicopter over rural Aleppo, which was posted in February and can be seen here: http://goo.gl/tv7ANx.

#Syria  - Activists have reported the launch of two SCUD missiles northwards from the Brigade 155 facility near to Damascus. We haven't independently confirmed this, but we're monitoring our sources for any updates. Let us know if you've heard anything on this. We believe Brigade 155 is located here: 33.667997,36.736944  and has been reported as the source of SCUD strikes in the past (see video here: صاروخ سكود من اللواء 155 القطيفة 28\2\2013) +Eoghan mac Suibhne +Liss Nup +Brown Moses +James Miller +Emily Dische-Becker +abdirahim saeed

There's been a lot of dispute about what this video actually shows, with Al Jazeera presenting it - (with caveats ("said to") - as showing Iranian fighters calling the shots in Syria - http://aje.me/1apqorz
EA Worldview says it shows nothing of the sort, in a fairly comprehensive article - http://bit.ly/1apqwHA - that names Ismail Haydari, captioned in the video as an 'Iranian fighter', as being an Iranian documentary maker.
The reporter has defended it in an exchange on Twitter - http://bit.ly/1apr5B7
There are multiple reports of Haydari's death online - I haven't found any referring to him as anything other than a journalist or documentary maker.
A few questions: Has anyone seen anything to suggest Haydari was a 'fighter'? Does the Arabic being spoken sound like it is fluent, or spoken by foreigners? Are there any other indications anyone can spot as to whether the Al Jazeera version is accurate or not?

Seeking help on Kurdistan! One of the constant problems we have in our Syria coverage relates to the fact that there is no machine translation available for the Kurdish language (that we know of). Also, the media-activist landscape in northern Syria is not as well developed or easily navigable as in other areas. We'd like your help with identifying sources, translators, websites, or tools that might help us cover that area better. Many thanks! Félim

Join us on Friday to discuss...

If journalism is done right, with objective fact-finding its core purpose, the same standards should be applied to content as are to courtroom evidence.

So what happens when we start thinking of online video as evidence?

What does that demand of journalists, and what burdens does it place on the creator? Does gathering content of that nature create increased risks? What technology can be used to verify content and the hands it has passed through, and how can journalists go about protecting their sources? And what does it all mean for YouTube, as the world's biggest video repository?

After the dodgy videos showing Liwa al-Islam launching the August 21st attack were published, I've been doing some digging on the sources, part of which has involved getting in contact with Kurdish groups, because the description of the video claims:
"September 15. Kurdish Peshmerga killed three Syrian terrorists on border. They found cell phone in pocket. Night bombing video there. Terrorists on video wear gas masks. Video was shot August 21. One terrorist name it Storm operation."

So a friendly journalist with lots of Kurdish contacts helped out, and came back to me today with:
"I've called many sources from the Kurdish PYD, and they do not have any idea about these videos. They denied their forces have arrested people who had these videos. Also today I contacted some people in Iraqi Kurdistan who are close to the Kurdish Peshmerga, they also denied having any knowledge of the videos. Most of PYD media sources said that these videos are fake."

More details on that here : http://brown-moses.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/kurdish-sources-deny-any-knowledge-of.html
