Andy on the trail of a good rumor. I can say that long term heavy google voice user, it will be interesting to see how GOOG folds the features into Hangouts.   I really hope they get it right, I'm still not exactly sure what's going on when Hangouts manages my texts for me ... :)

Very happy with the new android / g+ photos integration.   Looks like they nailed it.  I expect this will nudge me to be more active with the g+ community and expect to see more pics here.

Summary: Who thought subverting not only widely-used security mechanisms, but the security standards-setting process itself, was a good idea?

And from the Guardian:

"By deliberately undermining online security in a short-sighted effort to eavesdrop, the NSA is undermining the very fabric of the internet." Classified briefings between the agencies celebrate their success at "defeating network security and privacy".
• NSA and GCHQ unlock encryption used to protect emails, banking and medical records • $250m-a-year US program works covertly with tech companies to insert weaknesses into products • Security experts say programs 'undermine the fabric of the internet'

Average number of pages read in the new Schmidt/Cohen book before my head is filled with so many ideas that it explodes and I have to put the book down till the next day: 16.5. Currently on day 4, page 66.

Dang, I still rely on the classic but tried and true google reader to keep up on all sorts of news feeds.   Will have to find a new service by July (recommendations welcome), and not sure that I agree that RSS is dead, plenty of sites and blogs that I care about and follow still only publish updates via RSS.  Good grief, please don't tell me I have to "fan" all of these sites on facebook to keep up with them ....

One commenter made a very good point regarding the ability to use RSS as a way to both scan a large volume of information quickly, and to filter it while doing so. Very valuable tool. In addition, I use it to stay current on updates for sites that I follow without having to actually browse the sites. I'm really puzzled about this response by Google--if people aren't using RSS, then how are they obtaining comparable features?

Nice piece by John Foreman at GigaOM, "We’re all wringing our hands over the NSA, and meanwhile we’re handing our data as fast as we can to other entities for next to nothing. If the NSA were smart, it would buy Candy Crush Saga, change the permissions, and be done with it."

Not liking what I'm seeing here about the NSA colluding with vendors to get them to weaken networking devices so they are exploitable. Making companies more hackable is not a good use of my tax dollars, even (or especially) if it's the US government wants to hack into them.

Not a good use of tax dollars, not a good idea in any sense. In the long term, these activities will hurt them as much as their targets.

I've been waiting for google to reverse course on reader, but Pogue caught my eye today.  Turning up feedly couldn't have taken me more than 30 secs ...:  visit site, download chrome extension, approve access to reader.  Boom, all my feeds available in a snazzy new UI.  Thank you David.

Great minds think alike! Just started using Feedly myself a few days ago. Took seconds to transfer everything, and the new format is also simple, if a little different. Still don't understand why Google decided to lose Reader, though...

How much income is needed to live in Massachusetts for a family with two adults, one pre-school age child, and one in school? $73,776.00. Happen to live in Middlesex County? $81,576.00. See the just-released research report by CWU for full details, along with an accompanying research on "hot jobs", jobs that pay wages that can meet the income needs and are attainable with a 2-year degree.
