The start of November and this corner of south west England has a late autumn in full colour. Tilly and I went for a walk to nearby Avoncliff where a canal runs through the valley. I've been sketching the scenes from my canal-side walks for a few years now. They have slowly built up into a memory book of largely sunny days. Most feature the narrow boats which have become popular for holidays as well as many opting to live on the water. It can...

A one-off individual contemporary look at the seas glittering under a gibbous moon. Created after visiting the coast, I was taken by the natural edifices against the sea and the man-made. The c...

Loneliness is like a rain.It rises from the sea to meet the evenings; From plains far distant, it sets outTo reach the sky which never is without it.And from the sky it then falls on the town.Raining downwards in the hours of twilightwhen all streets are turning towards the morningand when bodies which found nothing, sad and disenchanted, let each other go,and when people full of hatred for each otherhave to sleep together in one bed, loneliness flo...

Sketching out an idea for a lino-cut print. This was inspired after walking round the lake on a warm evening. The wild Pimpernel flowers had seed heads full, which spilled themselves, scattering noisily as my knees brushed past them. ...

There's more to drawing than creating an image. It's about immersing oneself in the minutiae of shape and form. Those delicate lines or sweeping shades take some concentration and make a troubles mind focus on something tangible outside. ...

I find this large place too impersonal to be a good pace to eat - there is a dining hall atmosphere rather than restaurant and as it is so very busy, the staff are less personable. The food is good but not better than many other places I have been to.

Where else would I find so many well-picked and on trend cards and wrapping? (No tacky or hum-drum designs here). There are also small gifts and large lino cuts of the town. Andrew has a real eye for the aesthetic.

Good food and atmosphere for a group of friends to meet up - didn't mind us staying late.

Fantastic. The whole experience is a good one from the beautiful approach to the original art on the walls and décor. It doesn't stop there - the food itself is art on a plate with clever combinations of beautifully presented seasonal plates.

We had a stressful end to the day when my son and his Grand dad finished off their garden maintenance by helping a fire along with petrol. Grand dad doused, Jack lit. They obviously weren't thinking. Jack has burns all up one leg, some on the other and singing to the hair on his head with possible burning to his face and neck. The two nurses seeing to Jack were so good in how they treated us, both efficiently, but also (and quite importantly) as human beings in need of help. It reminded me again of how we are so lucky to have such a valuable resource to hand without question. It turned out had we gone half an hour later, that part of the hospital would have been closed due to shortages. We have such a valuable resource to hand which should not be underestimated. Thank you so much, Frome Community Hospital.
