In case you were wondering (as I have been), the Active Users Beta Report will likely be available across all GA accounts next week.

Hello, I'm having trouble accessing dataLayer variables listed under the third object in the attached pic. I'm wondering if they need to be sent with an event. When I look at Cutroni's dataLayer variables, they are preceded with a "variables ready" event. #googleanalytics

See how we hacked Google’s Universal Analytics to tie caffeine to productivity!

Hello. I have yet another question. One of our product teams is debating installing Google Analytics on one of our iOS apps - primarily to access demographic reporting. I'm having trouble tracking down consistent documentation on whether or not demographic reports (including age and gender reports) are even available in app analytics. Has anyone installed and been able to access these reports for apps? #mobileappsdeveloment   #googleanalytics

i'm not aware of any way to extract out demographic data from the app unless they actually hand over that information by inputting it into something like a customer profile within the app.  current demographic reports for Google's desktop analytics is pulled from the display ad network where they infer demographic information about the user through their browsing habits and cookie tracking.  mobile apps don't have what we consider cookies in that respect so there is no real tie in.

As I mentioned though if a user wants to tell you age/gender/etc then you can push that into a custom dimension within your mobile app tracking and build some custom segments I suppose. I have a few other crazy ideas but they are dependent on more conditions and probably aren't worth mentioning without understanding the situation better.

Hello,

I just setup Universal Analytics on a new property and I'm seeing 0.00 for the Avg. Page Load Time in site speed reports. Any idea why this information wouldn't pass into my reports? I'm using GTM, if that has any impact...

I'm looking for advice on internal site search tracking. I am configuring analytics for an app whose main feature is its search functionality.

The search query strings looks like this: /search?q=QUERY&filters[CATEGORY1]=TERM1&filters[CATEGORY2]=TERM2

GA doesn't seem recognize the category query parameters. My question is twofold - would you recommend using event tracking for the search category usage or am I doing something wrong by specifying '&', and 'filters' as my search category parameters. Any help would be much appreciated! #sitesearch   #googleanalytics

Hi +Hannah Poferl,

What Andrew said.

Also, leave the & out in GA settings where you specify the parameters, so category is just filters1 without the &, for example.

If you can't navigate around the restrictions set by the search engine, you could also ask the developers to configure a virtual pageview when the search is used. This vp would then gather the query parameter and category parameters from the dynamic search string into something that GA can use.

E.g. /?q=shoes&filters[CATEGORY1]=footwear&filters[CATEGORY2]=men

Becomes a virtual pageview like

/search/?q=shoes&category1=footwear&category2=men
