One of the best direct measures of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" is the fact that Robert Wise's film launched a series of "Star Trek" theatrical films and spin-off TV shows that have thrived for over 20 years. During that time, "Star Trek" has entertained millions, while helping to inspire countless young people to become teachers, doctors, nurses, engineers, scientists, artists, and even astronauts.
Gene Roddenberry's creation celebrates our humanity and encourages us to find joy in our diversity.
