I have been to Red's quite a few times. Never had a spectacular experience there until a few days ago. I have been having problems with my AR short cycling (either not stripping a new round off at all or grabbing the ejector groove and causing a nasty jam). Talked to one of the guys behind the counter and he took my bolt out and was able to tell me within 5 seconds that my gas rings were worn by putting my BCG bolt down and carrier dropped down onto the bolt. Tried to at least give the guy a tip for his services but he politely refused. I'd imagine this would have been a decent charge to diagnose at any other gunsmith. Buy a new set of gas rings (unfortunately they didn't have any at Red's but found some at another LGS next day). Put them in and sure enough bolt holds the weight of the carrier, did measurements and my old rings were a whole .020" smaller. I haven't ascertained for absolute sure that this was my problem but it was basically the only variable in my gas system that I hadn't checked yet so I'm almost positive this was the problem. Will be going back soon to do more function check with them. I have certainly heard alot about them having stupid people at the range but haven't witnessed anything stupid enough that it put other customers in jeopardy. Only real complaint I would have with them is their target holders getting cockeyed on occasion and the string breaking on them. I definitely prefer to go to Best of the West when I can make it, but when I want to do accuracy check of loads while eliminating wind variables, I tend to come to Red's.
