Announcing updates to Google’s Internet of Things platform: Android Things and Weave

Today we are announcing a full range of solutions to make it easier to build secure smart devices and get them connected. We are updating the Weave platform to provide an easy way to add cloud connectivity and management to devices, and enable access to Google services like the Google Assistant and many more over time. We are also releasing a Developer Preview of Android Things, an operating system for connected devices that has the support and scale of existing Android developer infrastructure. You can now develop IoT software using Android Studio and the Android SDKframework APIs.

Learn more about Google’s IoT platform from our blog post at https://goo.gl/ElHpIz, and join our new Google+ IoT community at https://g.co/iotdev.

We just pushed the latest update to Web Fundamentals that includes a bunch of brand new content and updates to existing content!

Based on +Jenny Gove’s research on mobile user experience, we’ve added Principles of Site Design (https://developers.google.com/web/fundamentals/principles/).  For those of you looking for monetization options, we’ve added a whole new Monetization section; today it only covers ads but we’ve already started working on other ideas to build this out more (https://developers.google.com/web/fundamentals/monetization/). +Paul Lewis delivered an amazing new section on building animations that covers everything from how to animate, what to animate, different easing techniques and plenty more (https://developers.google.com/web/fundamentals/look-and-feel/animations/).

We’ve also done a whole shed load of work behind the scenes to add localization support and better ways to provide credit to authors, translators and the engineers.

Thanks to everyone who’s filed issues, created pull requests or given us feedback!  In the last six weeks, we have opened over 110 issues, merged 22 pull requests, and had more than 200 commits from 11 people.

Please keep that feedback coming, tell us about bugs, request new content, or fix it yourself if you want!

The large Innovation Workshops that I planned and facilitated with my amazing former colleague +Paul Adams  at Google have evolved into Design Sprints. For the last two years I have led, together with my wonderful colleagues +Molly Stevens  ,@dave wright & +Nadya Direkova  very large Sprint Weeks for our Ads & Commerce UX team. This years Sprint Week is featured in the latest Google Design Minutes video. We learnt a lot, and we had A LOT of fun! Enjoy! http://goo.gl/O1y1ex
