So I have a bit of a success story I'd like to share in terms of a milestone I've been excited to reach.

After about 4 months of running games out of my Brooklyn apartment, on top of about 4 years of running games professionally out of gaming cafes and other locations, I'm finally, at long last, going to be switching from teaching to GMing games full-time this winter. I'm making enough per month from a combination of afterschool programs and weekend games for younger students, weekly evening adult games, and special events (birthday parties, irregular private games in Manhattan, etc.) and have enough interest at the door that time is now my main constraint. All said and done, I'm currently running 5-6 weekly games and full plan to expand to 6-8 by next summer. There are a lot of factors that have allowed me to pursue this successfully, and I've been very, very lucky to have the support that I've had along the way. Ultimately I don't have many people to share this exciting news with, but I hope it inspires people here in some capacity!

Hi everyone! It's truly a pleasure to discover and be invited to this group. A little bit about myself:

I'm a PhD student in New York studying the effects of gaming and pedagogy-- specifically how RPGs can be introduced into writing and language classroom. I spent the past two years running the RPG department at a gaming cafe, organizing D&D Encounters and running my own games for adults, as well as running afterschool programs and camps for younger students.

After some transition I've recently broken out and finally started running my own private games full-time! It's been a difficult and scary transition, but honestly it couldn't be going better. Building a base of customers has been relatively easy thanks to my location (lots of interested new players who can't find groups in Brooklyn), my experience as an educator (I run one kids' group currently and typically run 1-3 extremely profitable birthday parties a month), and my local reputation built up over the past few years.

It's wonderful to meet like-minded people here, especially since my experiences with online advertising have been generally negative. I would love to talk about my experiences, offer advice, or anything else that might be a contribution to the combined work we're all doing. I firmly believe that in the current market, more Pro GMs is good for ALL Pro GMs, so once again I'm happy to help in whatever way I can. Great to meet you all!

We finished Rise of Tiamat at the Brooklyn Strategist this week, and players got a kick out of the 3D terrain! Down with the Dragon Queen! Can't wait for Elemental Evil!
