For those of you unfortunate to have had an injury over the xmas we are open on December 29th from 1pm until 5pm.
Please call 01-9107964.
Until then here are some tips for dealing with an injury

Scale your pain out of 0-10
Anything over 6/10 your over doing it and you need to rest.

use ice and or heat-
people react differently to each so one might help one person but not the other.

For swelling use ice
For a feeling of tight muscles use heat.

Take some pain relief if it allows you to move more easily.
The hardest thing for us physio's to fix is a bad compensation more so than an actual injury.

For for those of you not in pain enjoy the rest of the festivities šŸ˜ŠšŸŽ„šŸŽ…

Shoulder pain!!!
Why is the Serratus Anterior muscle so important.
The serratus anterior (SA) muscle insures the stability of the scapula by pulling the scapula around the rib cage and into protraction. It maintains a stable base for the rotator cuffs to pull off and is often referred to as the boxers muscle.

A key sign of a weak SA is winging of the scapula. This is where the shoulder blade comes away from the chest wall and you can grab it. This is not good for shoulder stability. it means the other rotator cuff muscles must work harder to stabilise the shoulder in order to complete an upper limb movement.

When these muscles work harder is can lead to a rotator cuff injury.

Latest evidence has shown that heavy load resistance training can improve the SA's function dramatically and reduce pain with one session of guided exercise progression.
The best exercises to resolve this issue is scapular push ups using a resistance band. This can be completed on your knees or in full push up position.

Ensure you get full protaction by pushing your chest away from the ground as much as you can. then slowly lower chest towards the floor, all the time keeping your elbows straight. Tempo is key, complete this exercise very slowly.
.

Tip:Do not let shoulder shrug up to your ears when the scapulae are coming back together, pull them back and down towards your hips.
