It is usually beneficial to see things coming, right? After all, this is why we look both ways before crossing a street, we look at the weather for the week, and we even keep our eye on the ball. This time of year can bring togetherness, joy, connection, and cheer. Yet, all too often, after the holidays are over comes a period of despair, sadness, and even depression.

This is not a rule for everyone, so if you are one who does not feel the post-holiday blues please do not take this on for yourself. If you find yourself loving the holidays and then in a state of let down once they have passed, let’s see things coming!

Prepare rather than plan. Planning adds a sense of owning rather than a feeling of “if it comes, then we can do x, y, and z”. I am not asking you to own your specific post holiday emotional state of being rather I am asking for you to prepare for it.
