Ontario-based photographer Stephen Orlando turns the repetitive motions of kayakers, canoers, and swimmers into stunning displays of light painting, with woven strands of color representing the individual strokes of movement across time and space. To create these beautiful images, Orlando’s photos use programmable LED sticks that can blink or change colors over time, which is how he was able to ensure that each paddle stroke was captured. In an exposure of 20 or 30 seconds, the kayak becomes invisible, but the trail of light left behind as they paddle gets picked up and turned into an elegant lightshow.

"I'm fascinated with capturing motion through time and space into a single photograph," the photographer writes on his website, http://www.motionexposure.com/ : "Using LED lights with custom color patterns and long exposure photography, I'm able to tell the story of movement. This technique reveals beautiful light trails created by paths of familiar objects."

I love dawn and dusk , the edge between light and dark, like the edge between reality and the dream

To go in the dark with a light
is to know the light.
To know the dark, go dark.
Go without sight
and find that the dark, too blooms and sings,
and is traveled by dark feet and dark wings.

To realize that there is nothing to hold onto that can offer lasting satisfaction, shows us there is nowhere to go and nothing to have and nothing to be… and that’s freedom. Because in that nothingness is everything. Instead of allowing wild thoughts to enslave you, realize their essential emptiness. Examine the nature of worry; you will find that it is no more than a thought. When you see it as it is, it will dissolve like a cloud in the sky.
