The retooling of the Blue Jays will require a bit of subtraction from their roster on Saturday. But first, there was the matter of beating Kansas City with Johnny Cueto on the mound. Josh Donaldson had a lot to say about that.
Ezequiel Carrera started in left field and collected three hits, no doubt fully aware that his job with the Blue Jays was in imminent jeopardy

It was a whirlwind of a week for Alex Anthopoulos. Some deals fell through. But the Blue Jays' GM landed an impressive haul, turning over one-fifth of his roster in four days.
From the outside, one might have imagined a flinty-eyed Alex Anthopoulos mapping out his master strokes, then setting out with steely resolve to land a batch of big fish

David Price is coming to the Blue Jays. His new teammates can't wait.
John Gibbons was not surprised that his boss pulled off a deal for a pitcher. He knows the moods of Alex Anthopoulos pretty well

R.A. Dickey was solid on the mound. He was also glad to have the support of "a double-edged knife" at shortstop – a big fellow named Troy Tulowitzki, whose Blue Jays debut was spectacular.
It was a storybook debut for Tulowitzki, who said during his introductory news conference that the shock had not worn off from the trade news on Monday

Two Blue Jays had to leave the game against the Phillies. Jose Bautista says he experienced a cramp and will not miss playing time. Devon Travis's situation appears more serious.
Bautista grabbed his right hamstring area in the eighth inning. In the second, Travis struck out and later had to leave the game with tightness in his left shoulder

His Blue Jays teammates lamented the departure of the effervescent Jose Reyes, but acknowledged the trade will bring them an "elite" shortstop in Troy Tulowitzki.
Asked about Reyes’s reaction to the trade, three people who saw him Monday night all used the same adjective: sad

After a roadside delay, new Blue Jay David Price finally arrived to popcorn, applause and a surge in ticket sales.
The goal is to win now and the future – and free agency – will be dealt with later, he says

A realigned bullpen is making John Gibbons' job easier. That was strikingly evident in the Blue Jays' 5-2 win over Kansas City.
For any team, winning the first game of a series is especially advantageous when you have to face Johnny Cueto in the second

With the acquisition of former Cy Young winner David Price and star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, Blue Jays management has galvanized the fan base. The message to players, Tulowitzki says, is simple: "We’re going to give you guys the pieces. Now it’s up to you."
Now comes David Price, the true ace Toronto has long needed, acquired from the Tigers in a deal that came together in a matter of hours

Blue Jays fans started to applaud for Troy Tulowitzki at 6:44 p.m., when he trotted out to get loose before the game. Before the night was over, they had more reasons to cheer the new shortstop's performance.
After a decade of purple, suddenly all was blue. He was accustomed to batting third, but for the first time in his career, he was leading off

The acquisition of Troy Tulowitzki addresses both short- and long-term issues for the Blue Jays.
Alex Anthopoulos said he had to take the chance, even if it meant once again losing some top prospects
