Blocked ears – relieving sudden silence

It has probably happened to all of us at some time. You wake up one day and either one or both ears are suddenly blocked and no matter what you do, they just won’t clear.

Like hearing loss, ear wax (cerumen) can build-up over time and it is only when the world around becomes suddenly silent do we fully appreciate the problem of not hearing well.

You can’t hear what someone’s saying.
The TV volume gets increased.
You strain to hear if you’re in a group.
You feel frustrated that there is no immediate help available.
You feel out of balance.
Concentrating at work is much harder and very tiring
Your surgery can’t see you straight away and then you are told to use olive oil drops for 2-3 weeks. Do you really want oil in your ears for a fortnight or more – not to mention the hassle of not hearing well for weeks –or the increased risk of ear infections?

Is there a better solution?

Yes - it is called ‘Micro-suction’ and it uses a fine, low pressure suction pump to safely remove ear wax. This small vacuum cleaner goes to work to gently remove the ear wax from your blocked ears. No water, no mess, no pressure, painless and safe – immediate relief.

How safe is micro-suction?

Because we are not putting a pressure jet of water into the ear, ear drum and ear canal damage is almost non-existent. “micro suction is clinically safer than irrigation/syringing; pre-treatment with olive oil is often not required” says Kevin Carlyon, Director, Plymouth Hearing Centre Ltd

Is it time for a check-up?

If you would like us to check your ears for FREE with our video camera and show you the extent of the wax build-up then why not call us or book an appointment on-line. We can then discuss treatment options.

Why choose the Plymouth Hearing Centre

Kevin Carlyon’s well-established reputation in the hearing aid industry over the past 20 years brings a wealth of experience to his Plymouth Practice. He is NHS trained and his passion lies in helping people – of all ages – to hear better. Why not read our micro suction testimonials on-line?
